See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter losing a series for just the third time this season, the New York Mets got back in the win column last night by downing the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.
Tonight, they will look to claim yet another series win and pick up their 40th win of the season. On the mound for the Mets will be Carlos Carrasco, who will be seeking his league-leading eighth win, while Michael Lorenzen will look to continue a positive return to life as a starting pitcher in his first season with the Angels.
The Angels ended their 14-game losing streak on Thursday night against the Red Sox, but they were unable to turn it into a mini win streak. But despite their recent woes, could the home team be good value to take the win tonight as the underdog?

With Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom both sidelined and Tylor Megill having spent almost a month out before returning last night, Carlos Carrasco’s place in the rotation has become all the more valuable.
The veteran has delivered as hoped for Buck Showalter, and the Mets posting wins in six of his last seven starts.
Since his worst start of the season–he allowed eight runs and nine hits at St. Louis on April 27, which is his lone loss to date–Carrasco is 6-0 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts.
For the season, the 35-year-old righty has allowed two or fewer runs eight times in 11 starts, and he enters tonight’s matchup 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in two June starts.
Last time out, he allowed just two runs and five hits and struck out a season-high ten (with no walks allowed) in an 11-5 win at San Diego on Monday. It was his first double-digit strikeout outing with the Mets and his first since September 20, 2020, when he racked up 11 strikeouts against the Detroit Tigers.
BetOnline’s NL Cy Young odds place him at just +8000 to win the award, but if he continues to pitch this well, it will continue to pay dividends for his team, and that is what is most important.
Mets vs. Angels Prediction and Best Bets
Mets vs. Angels Prediction: Mets to win
Mets vs. Angels Best Bets: Mets ML (-130 at BetUS) & UNDER 9 (-118 at BetOnline)
Entering this season, Lorenzen had not been a regular starter since his rookie season with the Cincinnati Reds in 2015. But he has acclimated to his new role quite well all things considered. He allowed five runs, five hits, and five walks in 5.2 innings last time out in a loss to the Phillies, but he has posted six quality starts in nine starts this season, including four in five home starts.
But the Angels aren’t really doing enough at the plate right now to generate much confidence that they will give him enough support even if he pitches well against the Mets, whose .264 team batting average leads MLB.
Look for Carrasco and the Mets to seal the series tonight and for this one to be on the lower-scoring side compared to last night’s game. The latter play lines up well with trends, as the under is 11-7-1 when the Mets have been a road favorite.
