See Picks & Statistics For The GameIt has been a great weekend so far for the New York Mets. Along with winning the first two games of their series against the Miami Marlins, the Atlanta Braves, their closest challenger in the NL East, have lost back-to-back games against the Chicago Cubs.
With their lead in the NL East now back to 6.5 games, the Mets will look to wrap up a highly successful week by breaking out the brooms against the Marlins in the series finale.
To do that, they will have to solve NL Cy Young Award favorite Sandy Alcantara, which has proven to be rather difficult for opposing hitters thus far this season.

Can Alcantara Add to His Unbeaten Record Against the NL East?
Last time out, Alcantara continued an incredible stretch in which he has pitched at least seven innings and allowed two or fewer earned runs in seven consecutive starts.
Against the Phillies last Monday, he allowed two runs, six hits, and three walks and struck out five in 7.2 innings. Unfortunately, he gave up a lead in the bottom of the eighth, and the Phillies walked off a 3-2 win in the bottom of the ninth, so Alcantara was denied his seventh win of the season.
It was the first time this season that the Marlins lost in an Alcantara start against an NL East foe, but his record against the NL East at least remains unblemished since he received a no-decision.
This matchup will be his first against the Mets this season, but it will be his eighth against NL East foes. In the first seven starts–all of which have been quality starts–he is 5-0 with a 1.17 ERA. In 54 innings, he has allowed just ten runs (seven earned), 38 hits, and 10 walks, and has recorded 47 strikeouts.
Since pitching a season-low 4.2 innings in a loss at San Diego on May 6, Alcantara is 4-0 with a 0.81 ERA and has allowed just five earned runs in 55.2 innings.
He may not be putting up prolific strikeout numbers and pitching for the Marlins may well hurt his case relative to the likes of Joe Musgrove, Corbin Burnes, and Max Fried, but another outstanding start today against the Mets will only boost his credentials.
Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets Prediction and Best Bets
Marlins vs. Mets Prediction: Mets to win
Marlins vs. Mets Best Bets: Mets ML (-134 at BetUS) & Marlins/Mets UNDER 7 (-118 at BetOnline)
Bassitt is coming off of his best start of the season, as he pitched eight shutout innings, allowed just three hits and a walk, and struck out seven in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.
He has struggled with stringing together several good starts in a row, but he has pitched well against inferior opposition, so he should have a solid outing against the Marlins.
Alcantara should have another strong outing as well, but he won’t get a great deal of run support, and the Mets will manage to do enough to eke out a win.
