See Picks & Statistics For The GameIt might be too late for the Los Angeles Angels to make much noise in the AL wild-card race, but they head into their series with the Seattle Mariners with things trending up.
The Angels have won seven of their last ten games and took two of three over the weekend against the Minnesota Twins.
The Mariners, meanwhile, lost two of three on the road against the Texas Rangers over the weekend, but Seattle remains in one of the AL wild-card spots as this series gets underway.
Tonight’s opener is some serious must-see TV, with Luis Castillo pitching for the Mariners and Shohei Ohtani taking the mound for the Angels. Who will take the win?

M’s Need to Solve Shohei to Shake Off Sorry Showing in Arlington
After winning Friday’s opener at Globe Life Field, the Mariners saw a solid run end in Arlington as they lost the final two games of the series.
What’s all the more disappointing about the series loss, beyond it coming against a team that fired its manager today even after winning a series, is the fact that the M’s struck first in both losses only to lose.
The rotation turns over in this series with Castillo on the mound tonight and Robbie Ray getting the starting assignment tomorrow night opposite Jose Suarez.
Things should be a little less shaky tonight with Castillo on the hill. Last time out, he tossed eight shutout innings, allowed three hits and two walks, and struck out seven in what was eventually a 1-0, 13-inning win for the Mariners.
Castillo is on a streak of seven straight quality starts, in which time he is 3-0 with a 1.66 ERA. In 48.2 innings, he has allowed nine runs (all earned), 31 hits, 15 walks and struck out 56.
Ohtani the hitter will need to get hot to match last year’s 46 homers, but other than one nightmare inning in Atlanta in his first start after the All-Star break, Ohtani the pitcher has been an absolute beast over the last couple of months.
His run of six straight double-digit strikeout games ended with his first start this month, but Ohtani has allowed two or fewer earned runs in nine of his last ten starts.
The Angels are 7-3 in that ten-start stretch, but all three losses have come across his four most recent starts. So, a win tonight would certainly be welcome for Ohtani, whose AL MVP and AL Cy Young chances are heading in the wrong direction.
Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction and Picks
Mariners vs. Angels Prediction: Mariners to win
Mariners vs. Angels Picks: Mariners ML (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline, Bovada Sportsbook, BetUS & BetMGM)
Ohtani is certainly a formidable foe, but Seattle has their own thoroughbred for tonight’s race in Castillo. Results in Arlington were pretty disappointing, but three or four runs tonight will be more than enough to see off Ohtani and the Angels.
