In the City of Angels tonight, they play host to the Houston Astros as the 2017 Cheaters face the Los Angeles Angels out in Anaheim. These teams played a 3 game series in Houston just a couple weeks ago, and the Angels were able to steal 2/3 from the Astros down in Texas.

We saw three very close games, with the Angels winning 9-7, the Astros evening it up with a 6-5 victory the next day, and finally a 2-1 barn burner won by Los Angeles. Tonight is Game 1 of a 3 game weekend series between these AL West rivals. There is still plenty of opportunity for either team to break out, and there are tons of games for either team to make a wave in the divisional standings.

Can Angels Battle Houston at Home?

The Angels are in last place of the AL West, but they are fairly hot at the moment. Los Angeles has won 3 straight games, but they did lost 8 of their previous 9 games before that. This is only the 2nd time this season that the Angels have won 3 straight, and although I don’t know if they continue that tonight, I think they score some runs.

Framber Valdez has already pitched against the Angels and it did not go well. Valdez pitched 5 innings, allowing 8 runs on 10 hits and a walk, and the Angels went on to win 9-7. Now, since then Valdez has focused in, however he’s still allowed 12 earned runs in his L3 starts, including 5 earned runs in his 2 road starts this year.

The Angels bats jump from .236 to .240 at home, and all the way up to .279 against LHP, which is 3rd in the league. I think the bats get going for the Angels, and I’ve got a specific player I’m backing as well.

As for the Astros, they face Griffin Canning whom they’ve seen before as well. Canning lasted 5 innings against Houston, allowing 2 runs on 2 solo home runs, 5 total hits and 3 walks. The Astros hit .257 as a squad, which is 3rd in the MLB, and that number stays the same against RHP.

Look, these two pitchers love to give up hard contact and runs. They’ve already done both against these teams this year, and I don’t think anything changes. These teams have combined of over 8.5 runs in 2/3 games this year, and both games where these pitchers started. The Angels’ bats came alive against the Padres at home, and things should continue tonight at home.
