Guardians vs Yankees Game 2 Predictions & MLB Picks Today (10/15)

The Yankees will look to take a 2-0 ALCS lead when they collide with the Guardians in Game 2 tonight.

Aaron Boone’s club opened the series with a massive 5-2 victory over the Guardians on Monday night. Juan Solo and Giancarlo Stanton each hit home runs for the Yankees while Carlos Rodon struck out nine Guardians with one run allowed across six innings for his first victory of the 2024 MLB postseason.

Dating back to the regular season, the Yankees are now 5-2 SU against the Guardians in 2024, showing how one-sided the situation has been. In fact, New York has now won three consecutive games against Cleveland, outscoring the latter by an average of 5.3 runs per game along the way. Unfortunately, things likely won’t get easier for the visitors tonight.

After all, the ALCS is still at Yankee Stadium, where the Guardians are only 1-5 SU across their last six visits.

Do the Guardians have what it takes to achieve rare success at Yankee Stadium tonight? 

The Yankees are known for putting up a ton of runs, however, reliable pitching has paved the way for their recent success. They’ve held their opponents to five combined runs across the last three games and now get to face the Guardians, who are averaging a mere 2.8 runs in their last five games.

The Yankees will send RHP Gerrit Cole to keep the momentum going. The former AL Cy Young winner pitched well against the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and eight strikeouts in two starts. It’s also important to highlight that Cole pitched six shutout innings in his only meeting against Cleveland during the regular season.

As for the Guardians, they’re turning to RHP Tanner Bibee, who played a 2.08 ERA in two ALDS appearances. Considering how the Yankees own the third-best OPS against right-handed pitchers this offseason, Bibee can’t afford to slack against a lineup that boasts names like Stanton, Soto, and Aaron Judge.

The Yankees hope RHP Gerrit Cole’s impressive postseason performance will continue into Game 2. 

Based on how the regular season and Game 1 went, I’m taking the Yankees to win tonight. The Yankees have had the Guardians’ number throughout 2024 and I don’t see that changing — especially with how poorly Clevland has played on the road lately.

I also like how Cole has been playing on the mound and the Guardians aren’t scoring much lately, so let’s take the Yankees to cover the 0.5 run line through five innings as the top bet.
