The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants open a four game series in San Diego on Thursday night. The Padres have lost 5 of 6 and haven’t won at home in their last 4 tries. The Giants haven’t been on the winning trend either, as they have dropped 6 of their last 7.
The two teams currently hold the 2nd and 3rd place spots in the NL West. The Padres hold the better of the two spots by 4.5 games over the Giants.
Both teams will send their best starter to the hill on Thursday in an attempt to start off the series on the right foot. The Padres were just swept in two games by the Seattle Mariners, and the Giants lost their series to the Diamondbacks.
San Diego has already made two trips to Oracle Park in San Francisco this season, but this will be their first chance to host their division rivals. The Padres hold the season series edge 4-2 through the first 6 games.
The Padres hold the lead in the odds tonight according to BetOnline. Both teams hold value in their own way prior to the series opener, and it will be a popular game to bet.

Star Pitchers Look for Rebound
Both Logan Webb and Joe Musgrove are coming off of losses in their last appearance. Webb went 6 innings and allowed 5 runs in his last start against the White Sox. Musgrove struck out 10 and only allowed 3 runs to the Dodgers in his last outing, but had no run support and was tagged with the loss.
Musgrove has only allowed more than 2 earned runs twice this season. However they have come in back-to-back starts in his last two appearances. Prior to those two outings, he had an 8-0 record and an ERA of 1.60. After his last start, the ERA has risen to 2.25, and his record now stands at 8-2.
Webb has not allowed more than 4 earned runs in any start this season, and he is easily the most consistent pitcher on the staff. His ERA is solid at 3.13, and if he can fix his command issues, he can be untouchable.
If both pitchers are on point, we can expect a low-scoring pitchers duel. However, in the last 5 games between the two teams at Petco Park, the score has gone over the total run line.
Expect both pitchers to right their wrongs from the last time out and deliver an exciting battle that will result in a close finish.
San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction and Best Bets
Giants vs. Padres Prediction: Padres to win
Giants vs. Padres Best Bets: Padres ML (-139 at BetUS)
The best value bet tonight lies in the Padres moneyline. The game will be too close to take the run line with confidence.
Musgrove has had two rough starts, and even though he lost his last time out, he struck out 10 through 7 innings. I don’t see another bad start resulting in a loss on the schedule tonight. Expect. more dominance and lots of strikeouts.
