Now that the MLB All-Star Game is in the rearview mirror, baseball fans are focused on the second half of the 2022 season. The push for the playoffs is now on. Two teams to watch down the stretch are the San Francisco Giants (48-43) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (60-30), who go head-to-head on Thursday, July 21.
The Giants resume their quest to snatch one of the National League’s wild card spots. Their record through 91 games has them sitting 2.5 games back of the rival San Diego Padres for their final playoff spot, making a victory tonight crucial.
On the other hand, the Dodgers are absolutely running away with the NL West. They sit 12.5 games ahead of the third-place Giants and are on pace for another 100-win season. With the way Los Angeles has been playing, it’s no wonder the club is seen as a World Series favorite.
Carlos Rodon gets the nod as the Giants’ starting pitcher for the night while Mitch White will take the mound for the Dodgers.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds, along with the best bets to make, ahead of today’s Giants vs. Dodgers matchup.

Can Rodon Continue Dominance vs. Dodgers?
Anytime that Rodon takes to the mound, the Giants have a legitimate chance of winning any given game. The two-time All-Star finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting last season and picked up exactly from where he left off.
Rodon’s 8-5 record isn’t eye-popping, but he’s managed to pitch to a 2.66 ERA and 1.114 WHIP through his 18 starts. He leads the National League with a 2.14 FIP rating (fielding independent pitching), as well as with just 0.3 home runs allowed per nine innings pitched.
Another thing about the 29-year-old is that he’s pitched well against the Dodgers in two previous meetings this season. In the first game on May 3, he gave up just two runs on three hits over six innings, but the Giants couldn’t get any offense going, leading to a 3-1 victory for Los Angeles.
Nevertheless, things went better for Rodon the second time around. On June 12, the former 2014 first-round pick gave up only two hits over six innings, striking out eight batters without allowing a run in a 2-0 shutout victory for the Giants.
To combat Rodon, the Dodgers are going to need a strong pitching performance from White. He’s going to need a true rebound performance after he was lit up on his last outing on July 17, surrendering six runs on 10 hits to the St. Louis Cardinals in a 7-6 loss.
Unfortunately, White hasn’t had too much success against the Giants. While he’s only made three relief appearances against San Francisco, the San Jose, CA native has a 4.91 ERA over 3.2 innings. It’s a small sample size, but it shows that he must be better than that.
Betting Trends for Giants vs. Dodgers
- San Francisco is 4-8 straight up in its last 12 road games.
- The Dodgers are 11-1 straight up in their last 12 games.
- The total has hit the under in four of San Francisco’s last six games against the Dodgers.
- The total has hit the under in five of the Dodgers’ last seven games against NL West opponents.
Giants vs. Dodgers Prediction and Best Bets
Giants vs. Dodgers Prediction: Dodgers to win
Giants vs. Dodgers Best Bets: Dodgers ML (-146 at BetOnline) & Under 8 (-106 at BetOnline)
While Rodon gives the Giants a great opportunity to win, I think that the Dodgers are just too good to be stopped at the moment. San Francisco is starting to heat up, but Los Angeles has been tough to be at Dodgers Stadium.
I think it’ll be a close game, which is why I’m only taking the Dodgers to cover on the moneyline. I’m also taking the total to hit the under due to how close the Giants vs. Dodgers games have been this season.
