The Dodgers head to Philadelphia following yesterday’s 6-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The win snapped Los Angeles’ losing streak at four consecutive games, leaving time to tell if the club has what it takes to win back-to-back outings for the first time this month.

With this series taking place at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies hope they avoid another three-game debacle against the Dodgers.

After all, last month’s series was one-sided, to say the least. The Dodgers won all three clashes, outscoring the Phillies 36-11 on aggregate. Even more impressive is that the Dodgers didn’t score fewer than 10 runs in each of the contests, winning each game by at least a four-run margin.

While the Phillies do have some momentum heading into the matchup, it isn’t like they’ve beaten good teams during their winning streak. Their last five victories came against the Tigers and Washington Nationals, who are two of the seven worst teams in the MLB at the moment.

The Dodgers pose a different test, especially with their winning five of their previous six encounters with the Phillies. That’s not even mentioning how Los Angeles is a solid 7-2 in its last nine encounters with the NL East, whereas Philadelphia has dropped five of its previous seven games against the National League as a whole.

The good news for the Phillies is that they do have a winnable pitching matchup as Michael Grove is set to take the mound for the Dodgers. The 26-year-old righty has struggled through his first two road starts of the season, going 0-1 with a 15.63 ERA and 3.158 WHIP after allowing 11 runs on 17 hits over just 6 1/3 innings.

While the Phillies’ Ranger Suarez has struggled at times this season, he’s played better in recent starts. The 27-year-old southpaw has pitched 13 2/3 innings over his last two starts, striking out seven batters while allowing just three runs on 13 hits, leading to a 1.98 ERA over that stretch.

Another thing working in Suarez’s favor is that the Dodgers have a losing record (9-10) against left-handed pitchers this season.

And as great as Los Angeles is, Dave Roberts’ club has been inconsistent away from Dodgers Stadium, losing five of its previous seven road games. On the flip side, Philadelphia has gone on a 9-3 run in its last 12 games at Citizens Bank Park, winning the last four in a row.

Momentum is on their side and they’ve been playing well at home lately. Suarez has also regained his groove, which can’t be said for Grove. It’ll be close, but the minor things give Philly an edge.

Another solid Dodgers vs Phillies prop is taking the over on the 9.5-run total. There tends to be a lot of offense when these teams meet, highlighted by the over being 8-2 in their last 10 clashes. On top of those encounters seeing an average of 12.8 total runs per game, the Phillies and Dodgers surpassed 9.5 runs in each of their three previous meetings this season.
