See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter a disappointing weekend in Denver, the San Diego Padres will look to get back into the win column tonight at home as they open a three-game series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.
Entering this past weekend, the Padres were the best road team in the league, both in terms of wins and win percentage.
But the Rockies, who had picked up a split of a four-game series in San Diego the previous week, took all three games to knock the Friars out of first in the NL West.
The Padres have been pretty mediocre at home thus far, but nothing less than a series win will do against the Diamondbacks, who are still hovering close to the .500 mark as the halfway point of the season approaches.

Darvish Looks to Maintain Home Dominance
Of the 17 home wins that the Padres have this season, four have come in the five games that Darvish has started at Petco Park.
In those five starts, the five-time All-Star is 3-1 with a 1.35 ERA, and all five starts have been quality starts. In 33.1 innings at home, he has allowed just 15 hits and five walks and struck out 31.
At home, Darvish has a WHIP of 0.600, and opponents are hitting just .134 against him, while his WHIP and OBA on the road are 1.262 and .265, respectively.
And that success has come against a number of the better teams in the NL, as have most of his starts this season.
Of his 12 starts thus far this season, the only ones against teams who are currently under .500 are against the Diamondbacks (road), Pirates (road), Marlins (home), and Cubs (road).
When Darvish faced the D-backs in Phoenix on Opening Day, he pitched six no-hit innings but exited at that point after a 92-pitch outing. He left with a 2-0 lead, but the bullpen surrendered four runs in the bottom of the ninth, three on Seth Beer’s walk-off homer.
Will Darvish have a little extra motivation in the tank tonight to make sure he doesn’t suffer the same fate?
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres Prediction and Best Bets
Diamondbacks vs. Padres Prediction: Padres to win
Diamondbacks vs. Padres Best Bets: Padres -1.5 (+130 at BetUS)
Darvish will take the hill tonight following two outstanding outings. After pitching seven shutout innings and allowing only two hits in a home win over the New York Mets almost two weeks ago, he allowed just one run and five hits in a road win against the Chicago Cubs–a former team of both he and Davies–in his most recent start a week ago.
Davies is in fantastic form himself, as he has posted a 1.31 ERA in his first three June starts. He doesn’t have a win to show for it, picking up a no-decision each time out against the Pirates (road), Reds (road), and Reds again (home), but he has dropped his ERA from 4.84 to 3.78 in this stretch.
Run support has been a bit inconsistent for Darvish, but he has gotten enough in his last two starts. And the Padres did score at least three runs in all seven of their games last week and 14 times in 18 games this month.
If the Friars hit that mark again tonight, trends favor them to down the Diamondbacks tonight. In Darvish’s time in San Diego, the Padres are 23-5 when he starts and they score three or more runs, while they are 2-12 when scoring fewer than three runs in a Darvish start.
The moneyline is a bit too short to really want to recommend here, but if you prefer going that route, Bovada Sportsbook and BetMGM have the best number (-165).
But the run line is the move here. The Padres have 12 one-run wins this season, which is one of the higher totals in the league. But of their last 12 wins, only one has been by one run.
