The Rangers notched a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks yesterday in the clubs’ first meeting since the 2023 World Series. Texas never looked back after Corey Seager’s go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning as LHP Andrew Heaney picked up his first win of the year.

Diamondbacks vs Rangers Predictions & MLB Picks Today (5/29)

The Diamondbacks head into tonight’s game looking for a better offensive performance. Despite leading 2-0 after the first inning, Torey Lovullo’s club didn’t score again for the rest of the game.

Having said that, the lack of offense has become a recent trend. After all, the Diamondbacks have now lost three of their last four games while scoring two or fewer runs in each defeat. What’s even worse is that they were only allowed 10 total runs in those losses, meaning that more consistent production from their bats could’ve led to a win or two.

Meanwhile, the Rangers have slowly begun to turn things around. After going 2-12 SU across a 14-game stretch, the defending champions have now won back-to-back outings for the first time since the beginning of the month. It’s a small sample size, but they’ve outscored their opponents 10-4 in the last two games and will look to pick up right from where they left off this afternoon.

The Rangers haven’t been great in inter-league matchups this season, but their 42.1% success rate in them is noticeably better than the Diamondbacks’ mark (30.8%).

The Diamondbacks are struggling against AL clubs in 2024. Will that trend continue this afternoon? 

Following yesterday’s loss (and dating back to the World Series, the Diamondbacks are now 1-5 SU in their last six games against the Rangers. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Arizona has dropped four consecutive outings to Texas while being outscored 23-10 on aggregate.

Additionally, the D-backs have dropped five of their last eight trips to Globe Life Field.

Arizona’s chances of victory likely rely on which version of Ryne Nelse shows up today. While the 26-year-old righty has pitched to an abysmal 6.03 ERA and 1.835 WHIP through eight appearances, he just pitched five scoreless innings with five strikeouts against the LA Dodgers last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are turning to Dane Dunning, who’s 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA in eight starts. It’s also worth noting that Dunning didn’t allow a single run across 2 1/3 innings in three relief appearances against the Diamondbacks during the World Series.

After yesterday’s win, I see the Rangers picking up another victory this afternoon. The Diamondbacks’ offense is nowhere to be found lately and I don’t see that changing today after their recent lack of success against the Rangers. Texas’ attack is starting to heat up again and could take advantage of Nelson, who’s been hit-or-miss throughout the season.

The Rangers also clearly have the Diamondbacks’ number, so let’s keep things simple with a moneyline bet.

Best Diamondbacks vs Rangers MLB Player Prop (5/29)

I like a few Diamondbacks vs. Rangers player props today, but the one that stands out the most is Corey Seager o1.5 total bases (-114).

Seager has been great over the last few weeks, batting .379 while racking up 11 hits, seven home runs, and 11 RBIs in his last eight games. He’s racked up 32 total bases during that stretch (4.0 per outing), finishing with the Over on this prop in all but one of those outings. Additionally, the Over is 3-0 in his last three home games.

If that isn’t convincing enough, Seager is 7-2 on this prop in his last nine games against the Diamondbacks, amassing 30 TBs along the way. With how well he’s been playing lately, I just don’t see this prop failing today.
