It is only Wednesday, but what a week of MLB betting it has already been. Yesterday, there were 17 games on the MLB schedule, and the theme of the day was scoring, scoring, and more scoring.
All told, nine games finished with double-digit totals, and ten winning teams scored seven or more runs. So if you picked the right overs, yesterday would have been a profitable MLB betting day.
The standout hitting performance of the night belonged to Adam Duvall, who torched his former team to lead the Miami Marlins to a second straight win in Atlanta. After homering in Monday night’s win, Duvall absolutely went off last night. He was 4 of 5 with two homers, seven RBI, and four runs scored in the Marlins’ 14-8 win.
While Duvall’s dazzling display might have been a surprise, Shane Bieber’s pitching performance was not. The reigning AL Cy Young winner outdueled fellow hopeful Lucas Giolito, pitching nine shutout innings in Cleveland’s 2-0, 10-inning win over the Chicago White Sox. Bieber recorded double-digit strikeouts for the third straight start and has 35 strikeouts in 21 ‘21 innings.
Are the Red Sox a Contender?
April is a great time for premature MLB season proclamations, but the Boston Red Sox’s start is hard to ignore. Yesterday’s 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins was their seventh straight following an 0-3 start. The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are expected to rule the AL East, but could the Sox crash the party? MLB betting odds aren’t quite convinced just yet. The Red Sox are still +600 to win the AL East, +2500 to win the AL pennant, and +5000 to win the 2021 World Series.
The Red Sox meet the Twins in a doubleheader today, starting at 2:10 pm ET. This double dip will be a more accurate measuring stick, as they meet Minnesota’s top two pitchers in Kenta Maeda and Jose Berrios.
Top Teams Look to Bounce Back
Yesterday was not a particularly fun day for a number of highly-regarded teams. The Astros and Braves both fell again at home, with the Astros losing their fourth in a row and the Braves their third straight.
In Pittsburgh, Blake Snell didn’t make it out of the first inning for the San Diego Padres, who jumped out to an 2-0 lead but fell 8-4. Today, Joe Musgrove will look to put the Padres back in the win column as he makes his first start after Friday’s no-hitter against the Texas Rangers. Early MLB betting odds have the Padres as today’s biggest road favorite.
It was also a tough night for Jameson Taillon and the New York Yankees. Taillon allowed five runs and eight hits in only 3.2 IP in the Yankees’ 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays. The two AL East favorites start today’s slate with their rubber game this afternoon.
Elsewhere, Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes will try to nab his first win of the season. Burnes has been brilliant early, without a win to show for it. The Brewers are a solid home favorite against the Cubs, but Jake Arrieta has also started well in his return to the Cubs.
Here’s our look at the full MLB schedule for today and a rundown of some of the day’s top MLB betting matchups.

Wednesday, April 14 Top MLB Betting Lines to Watch
MLB Betting Sides
- Giants ML vs Reds: The Reds are slight favorites in the rubber match of this series, which could be selling the Giants a bit short. Cueto was brilliant in his last start vs the Rockies (8.2 IP, 4 H, R, 7 K), and the Giants are 4-1 at home.
- Tigers +1.5 vs Astros: The Astros are favored to salvage the final game of their series against the Tigers. But Fulmer has been solid in his first few outings this season, and the Astros have mustered only nine runs in their last four games.
MLB Betting Totals
- Angels vs Royals OVER: After posting a 2.47 ERA in nine starts in 2020, Keller has a 19.29 ERA after two 2021 starts (15 H, 10 R allowed in 4.2 IP). Canning did not have the best of outings in his first 2021 start, giving up four runs in 5.1 IP against the Blue Jays last Thursday.
- Indians vs White Sox UNDER: These AL Central rivals have some big bats, but the first two games of this series have been low-scoring. There’s a good chance that is the case again tonight with two more talented hurlers taking the hill in Plesac and Rodon.
