See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter hitting six home runs and shutting out the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night, the New York Yankees will look to close out their weekend with their eighth sweep of the season.
Friday’s series opener, a 2-1 Yankees win, went 13 innings, but the Bronx Bombers had the win well in hand with a few innings to spare in the middle game at Yankee Stadium thanks to their six homers–all solo homers–and an outstanding outing on the mound by Jordan Montgomery.
In the series finale, Keegan Thompson will hope to bounce back from his first loss and worst start of the season and salvage something from the series for the Cubs. But it could be another rough day at the plate for Chicago’s bats, with Yankees hurler Jameson Taillon off to a fine start this season.

Can Thompson Give Chicago a Chance Against MLB’s Best Team?
After allowing just six earned runs in his first four starts this season, Thompson allowed seven runs in three innings this past Tuesday in Baltimore, as the Orioles dealt him his first loss of the season.
It was a pretty ugly outing for Thompson, who allowed three homers after allowing just three all season to that point. He’ll need to tone down the generosity against the Yankees, whose league-leading long ball total increased to 94 with their solo shot party against rookie pitcher Matt Swarmer.
Thompson’s margin for error is likely to be minimal. The Cubbies have lost five straight games, and they have scored only seven runs in their last four. And Taillon has given up just nine runs in his six home starts this season, and he has yet to allow more than two runs in a home start in 2022.
This will be Taillon’s tenth career start against the Cubs, but the previous nine came while he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the most recent one coming in 2019. So, little can be read into his career numbers against them, but for whatever it’s worth, he went 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA in those previous starts.
Cubs vs. Yankees Prediction and Best Bets
Cubs vs. Yankees Prediction: Yankees to win
Cubs vs. Yankees Best Bets: Yankees -1.5 (-126 at BetOnline)
The Yankees have won games by multiple runs often this season, with wins by 2+ runs accounting for 64 percent of their home wins (16 of 25) and 72.1 percent of their overall wins (31 of 43).
On the other side of the matchup, nine of Chicago’s 15 road losses (60 percent) and 21 of their 35 overall losses (also 60 percent) have been by 2+ runs.
The Cubs have certainly battled well this season, and Thompson had made a good impression as a starter until his tough trip to Baltimore. Every pitcher, even the best of the best, has plenty of bad outings, and that one outing doesn’t diminish the fact that he has been a big asset for the Cubs this year.
But the Yankees are the best team in the game right now, with last night’s win the latest example of how good they are and can be. And with no moneyline value available, the run line is the standout option for backing the Bronx Bombers to break out the brooms in the series finale.
