The Dodgers (67-46, 34-20 home) have opened August with seven wins in eight games, and they are now six games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.

Will they capture their fifth straight win tonight? Kershaw makes his return after being sidelined for over a month due to soreness in his throwing shoulder. He is returning with a favorable matchup, as the Rockies (45-69, 20-39 away) have the worst road record in the National League.

Kershaw’s stint on the injured list is a killer for his NL Cy Young Award odds, as he is out to +7500 (at BetUS) after being one of the top contenders prior to being sidelined.

But while he is now unlikely to add a fourth Cy Young to his collection this year, his return couldn’t be happening at a better time for the Dodgers. With the Diamondbacks plummeting back down to earth and the Giants also losing ground, the NL West race is on the cusp of being a runaway.

That gem finished off a June in which he went 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA and allowed only four runs in 33 innings, and he will toe the bump tonight looking to extend a scoreless streak that stands at 16.2 innings.

Overall, things have not gone well at all for the Rockies against the Dodgers thus far this season. In winning four of the first five meetings, Los Angeles has outscored Colorado 45-18, and all four wins have come by three or more runs.
