See Picks & Statistics For The GameComing off of the best two-start stretch of his MLB career, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas will duke it out with reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes tonight as the Cards visit the Milwaukee Brewers.
Last Tuesday, Mikolas and his magnificent mustache came within one strike of a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with his no-no and his night agonizingly ended by Cal Mitchell’s ground-rule double.
It was his second straight stellar start, as he allowed just two runs and three hits and struck out nine in a hard-luck loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the outing prior.
Tonight, he’ll look to make it three in a row as he and the Cardinals begin a four-game series in Milwaukee, with the two teams tied for first place in the NL Central entering this week.

Can Burnes Breathe Some Life into Flagging Cy Young Credentials?
Entering today, Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara (+330), who pitched yet another gem yesterday against the New York Mets, as the favorite for the NL Cy Young Award, with San Diego’s Joe Musgrove (+410) next in line, followed by Burnes (+550).
After his losing his first two June starts, Burnes was much better last Wednesday against the New York Mets, as he allowed two runs and five hits and struck out eight in six innings in a 10-2 win at Citi Field. After walking a season-high four against the Phillies in his previous start, Burnes didn’t issue any walks against the Mets.
It’s going to take an extended stretch of those outings to boost his Cy Young hopes, given how good Alcantara and Musgrove are at the moment and the form that the likes of Zack Wheeler (+1000, 6-3, 2.69 ERA) and Tony Gonsolin (+2200, 8-0, MLB-leading 1.42 ERA) are in at the moment.
At home, Burnes is just 1-3 with a 3.63 ERA in six starts, while he is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in seven road starts.
But the reigning NL Cy Young winner was excellent against the Cardinals a few weeks ago, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, and striking out a season-high 11 in an 8-0 win at Busch Stadium on May 29.
In five starts against the Cardinals since the start of the 2021 season, Burnes is 2-1 with a 0.97 ERA. In 29 innings pitched, he has given up just four runs (all earned), 16 hits, and six walks and struck out 39 in 29 innings.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction and Best Bets
Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction: Brewers to win
Cardinals vs. Brewers Best Bets: Cardinals/Brewers UNDER 8 (-120 at BetOnline)
Both teams have had more overs than unders lately, as the over has hit in five straight and eight of nine for the Cardinals and in seven of 11 for the Brewers.
But with these two pitchers on the hill, runs will be at a premium tonight in Milwaukee. Look for both Mikolas and Burnes to perform and for the under to cash.
