This afternoon we get to watch one of Major League Baseball’s best rivalries in the entire league as the Cardinals and the Cubs face off at Wrigley Field.
These NL Central rivals have been a premier name of baseball for decades, but this year they sit at 3rd and 4th in the division currently.
It’s been a bit of a character-building season for both clubs, but today they will certainly give it their all in game 3 of this four game series.
Cardinals vs Cubs Season Recap
Prior to this series, the Cardinals and Cubs had seen each other five times in the first half of the season.
In early May, the Cardinals visited Wrigley where they won two out of three games against the Cubs. Fast forward to late June where both teams faced off across the pond in the 2023 MLB London Series.
The clubs split two games, giving the Cardinals a 3-2 season advantage over Chicago.
This Thursday begin our most recent series, and the Cardinals extended their winning ways against the Cubs in a 7-2 smackdown led by a Steven Matz pitching masterclass.
Friday Night the Cubs got their revenge, winning a close one, 4-3 in front of their home crowd. Justin Steele recorded his 10th win of the season, and his 3rd against St. Louis.
All three of the Cubs’ wins against the Cardinals have been on Justin Steele starts.
Will they finally beat the Cardinals without Steele tonight? Or will Miles Mikolas shut down the Cubs?

Mikolas Masterclass?
Back on May 8th, Mikolas pitched against the Cubs and went 4.1 innings. He gave up just 1 run on 4 hits, but he did walk three batters and struck out seven.
The Cardinals eventually won the game, thanks to two late inning RBIs from Wilson Contreras.
This is a bullpen game for the Cubs as they put out Michael Fulmer to start. I wouldn’t expect him to go more than a few innings, so it will be up to the Cardinals bats to produce runs off of a few different guys.
I think we see plenty of runs between these two teams. They both rank Top 10 in Runs and Top 15 in Hits compared to the league.
Both pitching staffs also rank in the bottom half in Batting Average Against, where the Cardinals are actually 3rd to last.
Get ready for some fireworks.

Player Props
Cody Bellinger Over 1.5 Bases (+124) Bovada
Bellinger hits this line in 53% of games at Wrigley Field this year. The lefty also bats .303 against RHP, while Mikolas allows lefties to bat .274.
Bellinger has cleared this line in 7 of his L10 home games, totaling 32 bases in that stretch.
He has a hit in five straight games, so he’s seeing the ball well recently.
Now, last night was his only time clearing this number against the Cardinals this year, but he had seven bases last night. The matchup works well against Mikolas, and he has a hit in 6/7 games against St. Louis this year.
I’m willing to gamble on Bellinger to get 2+ Bases tonight.
