See Picks & Statistics For The GameInclement weather has significantly disrupted the first series of the year between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. In three days, the only action thus far has been five innings on Friday night.
But Monday’s forecast is a positive one for the plan to play two, and if there are no issues, we’ll get to see the current NL Cy Young favorite, Braves flamethrower Spencer Strider, take the hill for the opener of the doubleheader (1:10 pm ET, MLB Network/ESPN+).
Will Strider continue his fantastic start to the season to lead Atlanta to a fifth win in six games? Read on for our Braves vs Mets prediction, as well as our best bets for this NL East rivalry matchup.

Will Dominant Strider Dazzle Again?
After posting a 2.67 ERA and logging over 200 strikeouts in just over 130 innings last season, Strider has hit the ground running in his first full season as a starter.
Last year, Strider finished the regular season by tallying nine or more strikeouts in four consecutive outings. That run is now at a franchise-record nine after he logged 13 Ks (with no walks) in an eight-inning masterpiece against the Miami Marlins last Monday. If he can do it today and in his next start, he will tie the MLB record, which is currently owned by no-hitter king Nolan Ryan.
In five starts, Strider has struck out 49 and allowed just six runs, 14 hits, and 11 walks in 30 innings. As a result, Strider (+220) sits atop NL Cy Young odds to begin May, ahead of Arizona’s Zac Gallen (+320), teammate Max Fried (+1100), and the Dodger duo of Clayton Kershaw (+1700) and Julio Urias (+2000).
Will he keep things going against the Mets? He hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts, and he also hasn’t allowed a run in his two road starts this season.
The Mets have prospered offensively in games started by righties this season, hitting at a .267 clip and averaging 5.9 runs per game in 15 games started by RHP. By contrast, they have hit at a .205 clip and averaged only 2.8 runs per game in a dozen games started by LHP.
If they are able to generate some success against Strider, he likely won’t be too worried. The Braves have scored at least five runs in each of his starts this season, and they have tallied 38 runs total (7.6 runs per game).
Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction for Braves vs Mets: Braves to win
Best Bets for Braves vs Mets: Braves -1.5 (Best Value: BetUS)
The Mets have dropped five of their last six games, and in that stretch, they have managed five or more runs only once. Thus far this season, they are 2-11 when scoring fewer than five runs and 13-1 when scoring five or more runs.
In the 25 games Strider has started in his MLB career to date, the opposition has scored five or more runs just six times, including just once in his five starts this season.
If the percentages play out favorably for Atlanta, the run line is the best betting option here, even though there’s a lot of juice no matter where you look. Of the 11 losses that the Mets have when scoring fewer than five runs this season, nine have been by multiple runs.
