See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022 Major League Baseball season continues with even more action on Friday, Aug. 12 as the playoffs are right around the corner. One of today’s more interesting games is a showdown between the Atlanta Braves (66-46) and Miami Marlins (50-61).
The Braves were close to taking the NL East lead last week, however, losing four contests in a five-game series against the New York Mets has put them seven games behind their divisional rivals. Nevertheless, Atlanta has since won back-to-back games and hopes to build on that tonight.
Meanwhile, wins have been hard to come by for the Marlins lately. They’ve lost nine of their last 12 outings ahead of this contest and have even lost nine of their last 10 home games.
It’ll be a battle between two solid starting pitchers as Jake Odorizzi gets the start for the Braves while Pablo Lopez takes to the mound for the Marlins.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds, along with the best bets to make, ahead of today’s Braves vs. Marlins matchup.

Can Braves Continue Dominance Over Marlins?
The Braves have been one of the better teams in baseball over the last few years, highlighted by their 2021 World Series victory. However, not only has Atlanta been dominant across the league at times, but they’ve truly had the Marlins’ number in recent history.
Over the last 50 meetings between the NL East rivals, it’s been the Braves who’ve won 31 one of those goes. On top of that, Atlanta has actually won eight of the last 10 trips to Miami, showing that the club can even get the job done on the road.
Things have been fairly even this season, though. The two teams have met nine times over three series already with the games being split, 5-4, in favor of the Braves. Having said that, Atlanta has won four of the last six meetings, outscoring the Marlins 25-21 over that stretch.
If the Braves want to win tonight’s collision, they must get a strong outing from Odorizzi. He’s only made one start since he was acquired from the Astros, losing to the Mets last week after giving up six hits, three runs and a trio of walks over 4.2 innings.
Fortunately, the veteran hurler has had success against the Marlins. Odorizzi is 3-1 in six all-time meetings against Miami, pitching to a 3.41 ERA while recording 35 strikeouts over 31.2 innings.
Although Lopez has been solid this year, he hasn’t performed well lately. The Marlins veteran pitcher has gone 1-3 in his last four starts with a 7.32 ERA after surrendering 16 runs on 28 hits during that span.
Unfortunately for Lopez, the Braves average 4.81 runs score this season — fourth-best in the Majors. Unless he can retire batters early and often, it could be a long day for the 26-year-old.
Betting Trends for Braves vs. Marlins
- Atlanta is 5-1 straight up in its last six road games against Miami.
- Miami is 1-9 straight up in its last 10 home games.
- The total has hit the over in six of Atlanta’s last seven games.
- The total has hit the under in each of Miami’s last nine games.
Braves vs. Marlins Prediction and Best Bets
Braves vs. Marlins Prediction: Braves to win
Braves vs. Marlins Best Bets: Braves -1.5 (+116 at BetOnline) & Over 7 (-120 at BetOnline)
Unquestionably, I’m rolling with a Braves victory here. Even though they had a hiccup against the Mets, they’re the defending champions for a reason. Their recent success over the Marlins only solidifies them as a betting option.
As for the best bet, I’m taking the Braves to cover the 1.5-point spread as I expect Lopez to have his struggles. I’m also taking the over since a seven-run total is fairly lowly and I think Atlanta has the firepower to make this a blowout.
