See Picks & Statistics For The GameFresh off of an impressive home series win over the previously undefeated Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays (10-6) will kick off a new week with another matchup with one of the AL’s top teams. Tonight, they will open a three-game series with the Houston Astros (7-9) at Minute Maid Park (8:10 pm ET, ESPN+).
The Astros may be off to a slow start this season, but oddsmakers still see them as the team to beat in the American League. Among AL teams, they have the shortest World Series odds, ahead of the Rays, Yankees, and Blue Jays.
Will they flex their muscles and prove their championship credentials in this series? A strong start tonight could set them on the path to doing so. Read on for our Blue Jays vs Astros prediction, as well as our MLB betting picks.

Today’s Pitching Matchup for Blue Jays vs Astros
- Toronto Blue Jays: RHP Kevin Gausman (1-1, 1.35 ERA)
- Houston Astros: RHP Cristian Javier (1-0, 4.24 ERA)
Will Javier Produce a Winning Performance on Home Turf?
Yesterday, I backed the Astros to win the rubber match of their series with the Texas Rangers.
That, however, did not come through. Instead, Framber Valdez allowed five runs in six innings, and Texas scored seven unearned runs in a 9-1 win.
As a result, the Astros remains stuck on one series win for the season, and they are now only 2-5 SU after a win.
A chunk of what I said yesterday about the Astros applies here just as much as it did yesterday. Houston will turn it around eventually, and it’s likely to happen sooner rather than later.
Will Javier deliver tonight against the Blue Jays? Last time out against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he allowed four runs and five hits, including two homers, and took the loss in a 7-4 loss in Pittsburgh last Tuesday.
Will we see similar struggles tonight? Since the start of last season, Javier has allowed three or more runs in consecutive starts only once.
A strong effort from the 26-yeae-old righty is needed tonight, but the offense needs to find a way through Gausman and Toronto.
Gausman has opened the season with three consecutive quality starts, and he has recorded seven or more seven strikeouts in each start.
The veteran righty was much better on the road (8-3, 2.30 ERA in 15 starts) than at home (4-7, 4.57 ERA in 14 starts) last season, and he has opened the new season by not allowing a single earned run in his first two road starts.
Toronto Blue Jays vs Houston Astros Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction for Blue Jays vs Astros: Astros to win
Best Bets for Blue Jays vs Astros: Astros ML (Best Value: Bovada Sportsbook) & Blue Jays/Astros under 8 (Best Value: BetUS & BetMGM)
Ultimately, it’s not often that you will find the Astros at odds like these at home. They let me down last night, but that won’t put me off of investing in their success tonight.
Also, I like the value with the under tonight. Gausman is typically at his best on the road, and since allowing four, six, seven, and six runs in consecutive games against the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers earlier this month, the Astros have not allowed more than three runs in consecutive games.
