The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles aim to make ground in the AL East standings when they begin a three-game series on Tuesday, June 13. After Baltimore swept the first Blue Jays vs Orioles series of the 2023 MLB season last month, can Toronto overcome its division rival this time around?
The Blue Jays hope to keep the momentum coming following Sunday’s 7-6 win over the Minnesota Twins. Third baseman Matt Chapman led the charge with one home run and three RBIs as Toronto trailed by five runs at one point.
Meanwhile, the Orioles seek to extend their winning streak to five straight games after sweeping the Kansas City Royals over the weekend. The most recent outing saw Baltimore win 11-3 as the duo of Gunnar Henderson and Ryan O’Hearn combined for six hits, two homers, and four RBIs.

Blue Jays vs Orioles Game Preview
Baseball fans can expect a competitive matchup between two clubs trending in the right direction.
On one hand, there’s the Blue Jays. John Schneider’s team may have had some struggles in May, but has turned things around by going 8-3 in its last 11 games. The impressive run has led to Toronto now being just 0.5 games back of the American League’s final wild card position.
The Blue Jays’ recent success also extends to the road, where they’re 5-1 in their last six away contests. Toronto boasts a plus-9 run margin over that span and even held four of those opponents to one or zero runs.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are the AL’s No. 1 wild-card team and ride their aforementioned four-game winning streak into tonight’s matchup. Baltimore’s offense has played a key role in those positive results, scoring six-plus runs three times while outscoring its foes by an average of 4.3.
Having said that, it won’t be easy to produce runs if Toronto starting pitcher Chris Bassitt continues to pitch well. The former MLB All-Star dazzled during his last seven starts, going 4-2 with a 2.02 ERA while striking out 42 batters with 10 walks issued over 49 innings.
And, unfortunately for the O’s, Bassitt seemingly has their number. The 34-year-old veteran has squared off against Baltimore four times throughout his career, going 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA while striking out 9.1 batters per nine innings. One of those victories even came at Camden Yards.
If Bassitt has a strong performance, Dean Kremer must do his best to keep the Orioles in it. Though he’s talented, Kremer is coming off a poor outing six days ago that saw him allow two homers and six runs on nine hits over five innings in a 10-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Nevertheless, that blunder came on the road, whereas tonight’s game is in Baltimore. The good news for Baltimore fans is that Kremer is 3-1 in his last four home starts, pitching to a 3.80 ERA with 18 strikeouts.
On the other hand, Kremer owns a 5.22 ERA in eight career matchups (seven starts) against the Blue Jays, only winning one of those outings.
With Toronto boasting red-hot bats like those of Whit Merrifield, Brandon Belt, and Daulton Varsho, Kremer can’t afford to make any mistakes.
Blue Jays vs Orioles Game Prediction and Picks
Blue Jays vs Orioles Prediction: Blue Jays 5, Orioles 4
Blue Jays vs Orioles: Blue Jays ML (Best Value: -144 ) & Over 8.5 Total Runs (Best Value: -122)
After getting swept last month, the Blue Jays will be motivated to get a win back tonight. The Orioles have been solid at home, but Kremer’s play this season — as well as his history against Toronto — raises some red flags. Bassitt is pitching like one of the best in the AL at the moment and has what it takes to frustrate Baltimore. It’ll be a close game, but the Blue Jays will edge things out.
I also like the over on the 8.5-run total at -122 odds. As mentioned before, 13 of the last 17 Blue Jays vs Orioles matchups at Camden Yards have hit the Over on their projected totals. The two AL East rivals averaged a combined for a massive average of 12.3 runs over that stretch, going over 8.5 a total of 14 times.
In other words, surpassing 8.5 runs won’t be an issue for these talented squads.
