See Picks & Statistics For The GameBaseball fans are being treated to a fairly significant American League matchup on Tuesday, May 31 as the Los Angeles Angels are set to visit the New York Yankees.
Both teams are among the best that the AL has to offer during the 2022 MLB season. The Angels are currently 27-22 and sit 4.0 games back of the Houston Astros for the AL West lead. Meanwhile, the Yankees are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers with a Major-League best 33-15 record.
Fans will also be treated to an interesting pitching battle between the Angels’ Noah Syndergaard and Yankees’ Jordan Montgomery. Both men are more than capable of handling business on the mound, which is why it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top.
Both the Angels and Yankees are looking to end May on a high note and only time will tell who comes out on top.

Trends Point to Uphill Battle for Angels
Although these two clubs are two of the best this season, history hasn’t been kind to the Angels when it comes to their recent battles against the Yankees.
The Angels enter Tuesday’s game riding a five-game losing streak, which includes being outscored 34-23 over that stretch. To make matters worse, they’re only 7-13 straight up in their last 20 meetings with the Yankees.
If Angels fans think the misery against the Bronx Bombers ends there, they’re mistaken. Los Angeles has also only won six of its last 20 trips to Yankee Stadium, which doesn't bode well considering how well New York has been playing so far.
In other words, the Angels will lean on Syndergaard to help them get off to a strong start on the mound. Unfortunately, the Mansfield, TX native hasn’t had too much success in his career against the Yankees, going 1-1 in two career starts with a 4.91 ERA and 1.364 WHIP.
Besides, silencing the Yankees’ bats will be a lot easier said than done. New York averages 4.58 runs per game (No. 8) and leads the league with an average of 1.40 home runs per game. That’s highlighted by Aaron Judge’s MLB-leading 18 homers, but it’s important to point out that Anthony Rizzo (11) and Gleyber Torres (nine) have respectable totals as well.
Having said that, the Angels have firepower, too, averaging the third-most HRs (1.37). It’ll be interesting to see if they can get the offense going against Montgomery, who’s 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in his only start against Los Angeles.
The Yankees have also lost back-to-back games, so the time for the Angels to take advantage of the opportunity is now. If New York is given any breathing room early on, it could wind up being a long series for Los Angeles baseball fans.
Over/Under Trends for Angels vs. Yankees
- The total has hit the under in four of the Yankees’ last six games.
- The total has hit the over in four of the Angels’ last five road games.
- The total has hit the over in four of the last six Angels vs. Yankees matchups.
Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees Prediction and Best Bets
Angels vs. Yankees Prediction: Yankees to win
Angels vs. Yankee Best Bets: Yankees ML (-138 at BetOnline) & UNDER 9 (-118 at BetOnline)
Although both teams are on losing streaks, I have faith in the Yankees snapping theirs on Tuesday. They’ve been the better team overall this season and I have more faith in their bets and pitching delivering them a win tonight.
As for the total, I’m picking the under. I know that the two clubs have combined for the over more often in recent meetings, but Syndergaard and Montgomery are two of the more consistent AL pitchers. With them on the mound, I don’t see the score exceeding nine total runs.
