See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter being on the receiving end of a shutout by the Giants on Sunday, the Dodgers turned the tables in last night’s matchup against the Angels. Tonight, they will look to keep the Halos’ bats quiet again while getting a little more noise from their own in the latter game of their two-game midweek set.
Last night, Tony Gonsolin pitched 6.1 shutout innings and allowed only one hit and two walks, and a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning and a solo homer in the eighth inning by Mookie Betts gave the home team all the runs they would need.
Things did get a bit hairy in the top of the ninth, as the Angels loaded the bases with one out against Craig Kimbrel. But the veteran closer shut the door to preserve a 2-0 win and get the Dodgers back into the win column after their sweep in San Francisco.
For the Angels, it was another ice-cold performance at the plate, and prospects don’t exactly look promising for tonight, with unbeaten Tyler Anderson on the mound for the home team. Anderson missed his first chance last week to move to 8-0, but he will look to join Gonsolin with that mark tonight.

Will Underperforming Bats Wake Up Tonight at Dodger Stadium?
The Angels and Dodgers boast some of the most dangerous hitters in the game, but both teams have been fairly quiet at the plate recently.
Each team had an 11-run game last week, with the Dodgers scoring 11 runs against the Chicago White Sox last Thursday and the Angels scoring 11 against the New York Mets last Saturday.
But the Angels managed only one run in the series finale against the Mets and were blanked last night, and in their last 14 games, the Halos have scored two or fewer runs nine times.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, have scored six runs in four games since their outburst against the White Sox.
So, it is pretty easy to conclude that splits from the last seven days for both teams make for pretty rough reading, especially when you factor in that 11 runs, 15 hits, four walks, five homers, four doubles, and the two triples all came in Saturday’s 11-6 win over the Mets.
Hitting Splits Over the Last Seven Days for the Los Angeles Angels (Six Games)
- Batting Average: .242
- Runs: 20
- Hits: 48
- Doubles: 8
- Triples: 2
- Home Runs: 9
- Walks: 16
- Strikeouts: 72
For the Dodgers, 11 runs, 12 hits, four doubles, one homer, and seven walks came against the White Sox last Thursday.
Hitting Splits Over the Last Seven Days for the Los Angeles Dodgers (Six Games)
- Batting Average: .221
- Runs: 21
- Hits: 45
- Doubles: 10
- Home Runs: 7
- Walks: 22
- Strikeouts: 53
Will production at the plate be hard to come by tonight? Detmers has a 6.19 ERA in four road starts, but he comes in having not allowed a run in either of his last two starts, which were on the road against the Yankees and at home against the Red Sox, both of whom have potent lineups.
Anderson saw his impressive scoreless streak end last Thursday against the White Sox, as he allowed four runs in three innings in Chicago. But that was just the second time in eleven appearances (nine starts) this season that he allowed more than two runs.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction and Best Bets
Angels vs. Dodgers Prediction: Dodgers to win
Angels vs. Dodgers Best Bets: Dodgers -1.5 (+102 at BetUS) & UNDER 9 (-118 at BetOnline)
With how last night’s game went, how both teams are performing at the plate right now, and what we have seen from both starting pitchers recently, it’s hard to see there being many runs tonight at Dodger Stadium.
Many books have the total at 8.5, but BetOnline still has it at 9, and it’s available at a much better number than you can get for it as an alternate total at other books.
Also, as with most games, the run line is the best move when you are backing the Dodgers. It took a late homer from Betts and Kimbrel pitching out of a mess of his own creation in the ninth, but they won by 2+ runs for the 34th time this season.
When something is hitting almost 90 percent of the time, you have to keep riding it where it makes sense to, and it certainly makes sense to here, especially when you factor in that 13 of the Angels’ 16 road losses and 24 of their losses overall this season have been by 2+ runs.
