Is LAD a Safe Play?
The Dodgers are strong candidates to go back-to-back, especially with expectations of solidifying their starting rotation and bringing back key players like Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, and Gavin Stone—guys they desperately needed during this championship run. They’ll retain their star hitters, and there’s considerable anticipation around Shohei Ohtani returning to the mound in 2025 after missing the entire 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery. With a fully healthy Ohtani adding depth to the rotation, opposing teams will face an even tougher challenge than before. At +325 to repeat, is there real value there? Absolutely; with all these factors in play, the Dodgers should emerge even stronger next season, which is a frightening prospect for their competition.
Dark Horse Candidates
Looking ahead to the offseason, several strong teams should consider making moves. Everyone will be vying for Juan Soto, but only one team will come out on top. Among the contenders with odds over 10/1, San Diego stands out. They already have a solid starting rotation and a willingness to spend. The Mets are also in a similar position.
Philadelphia is always a team to watch; they’re just a few starting pitchers and other key pieces away from returning to the Fall Classic.
If I had to take a big long shot, it would be Arizona. They led the league in scoring but missed the playoffs. Their offense is explosive, averaging five runs per game, but their pitching is lacking—they ranked fifth worst in runs allowed, giving up over four runs per game. If they can bolster their pitching staff this offseason, they’ll have the pieces to make a championship run.
