For many, the Home Run Derby is the highlight of each year’s MLB All-Star festivities.
And this year’s Derby certainly did not disappoint, with rookie sensation Julio Rodriguez denying Pete Alonso a historic three-peat before being edged out by future Yankee/Met/Dodger star Juan Soto in the finals.
But there is plenty to look forward to in tonight’s All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium, as the best and brightest in MLB take the field representing the American League and National League.

Will the AL Continue Its All-Star Game Dominance?
The American League has been absolutely dominant in the All-Star Game over the last two and a half decades.
After a win in 1996, the National League held a 40-26-1 all-time advantage.
Since then, the AL has wiped out that advantage and then some. With 20 wins in the last 24 editions of the MLB All-Star Game, the AL now holds a 46-43-2 edge over the NL.
The “Junior Circuit” enters this year with eight straight ASG wins. In last year’s game at Coors Field in Denver, they claimed a 5-2 win. The AL took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and maintained a lead the rest of the way, and Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered and drove in two runs to pick up MVP honors.
2022 MLB All-Star Game Predictions and Picks
It’s obviously hard to really forecast much about how things will go in an exhibition game, and as such, making any serious bets on the action at Dodger Stadium is a silly thing to do.
It’s not like your typical MLB game. Everyone’s going to get a chance to play, and other than the first inning, we don’t know who’s going to pitch when.
That said, there are three plays that carry the highest potential rate of success, based on how frequently they have occurred in recent years.
American League to win
It will be interesting to see what kind of line movement occurs before the start of the game and if the AL ends up favored.
But even if they aren’t favored, their dominance over the last two and a half decades, despite all of the talent that the NL has brought to the table, makes them the better bet to win.
Under 7.5
While the over might often be the way to go in the NBA All-Star Game or the Pro Bowl, the under is the best bet for the MLB All-Star Game.
In 10 of the last 15 editions of the MLB All-Star Game, seven or fewer runs have been scored ten times, including seven of the ten times in that period that the game has been held in an NL park.
American League -1.5
There hasn’t been a real rout at the All-Star Game since the NL’s last win, an 8-0 triumph at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City in 2012. In fact, the AL’s biggest margin of victory in their eight-game win streak is three runs (2013, 2015, and 2021).
But six of their eight wins have come by 2+ runs, and since a run of four straight one-run wins for the AL from 2006-09, there have been only two one-run games (2017 and 2019).
