We are finally into the knockout round where we will see who will win the gold. Team USA will take on Nigeria in the 1st round and are big time favorites. These 2 teams met in the qualifiers back in February where USA won by 54 points.
USA went 3-0 in group play and have no plans on slowing down as they have their eyes on the gold. They’re averaging 92 points per game on 49.5% shooting from the field. They have had a great start to the Olympics.
In their last game vs Germany, USA won by 19 points. Jackie Young had 19 points off the bench. A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart each had 14 and 13 points, respectively. They led in both rebounding and assists in the game, led by the likes of Alyssa Thomas and Sabrina Ionescu.
Does Team Nigeria have what it takes to beat Team USA after their big win?
This Nigerian team has been a big surprise. They went 2-1 in the group round while averaging 69.3 points per game. A big stat for them is on defense and it’s averaging 13.3 steals per game.
Nigeria is coming into this game off a big win over Canada by a score of 79-70 on Sunday. They came back in the 2nd half and held Canada to only 5 points in the 3rd quarter. This is the type of play they’re going to need to compete with team USA.
The win over Canada gave them their 1st chance to win an Olympic medal. They have now made it the furthest of any African American team in the history of the country in the Olympics.
Nigeria will be up for the tough task vs USA. Let’s check out the odds and get into some picks.

Even though Nigeria will look to carry that momentum, I don’t think it’s going to be enough. USA should take care of business without a problem with their stacked line up. It’s a lot of points to take, so we’re taking the over.
The 27.5 points is crazy big. I think USA will smash Nigeria, but that’s a lot of points. The most team USA has won by so far is 26 points, but they are putting up points. They have gone over this total in 2 of their 3 games this Olympics.
USA stars will be out in full force. Expect A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart to continue to dominate. Players like Alyssa Thomas, Jewell Loyd and Sabrina Ionescu will also be doing their thing.
I normally give a player prop or two, but these Olympics are really tricky. The players are very unselfish, and all contribute to each game. If I had to pick, I would take A’ja Wilson to get her points line. It will probably be 23 or 24 and I think she gets 25+.
