Germany vs. France Analysis & Breakdown
We’re locked into the Olympic Men’s Basketball Semi-Finals and we’ve got two powerhouses going toe to toe. Germany enters this game off a Gold Medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and will be playing in their first Olympic Semi-Final.
France, on the other hand, didn’t make it passed the group stage in the World Cup and have already lost once to this German squad in this tournament.
This French squad looks a little different than it did last year in the World Cup, now having added Victor Wembanyama into their the starting lineup.
Rudy Gobert will also be heading to the bench for France, in a surprising move by head coach Vincent Collet. Whether this works we’ve yet to see.
Germany won 85-71 in their first matchup just five days ago.Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder combined for 52 of Germany’s 85 points, and a combined 11 assists. Each guy saw 33 minutes in that game and look poised for the same type of usage tonight.

We just got burned by Dennis in the Quarter-Final, but with how we’ve seen France struggle against guards, it’s hard to not go back. Schröder is averaging 18 points per game on 52% from the field and 41% from 3.
He scored jus 13 points in the Quarter-Final against Greece, shooting 5/12 and not getting a single free throw attempt. Germany struggled to score the ball, putting up just 76 points in their win.
France, through 4 games, has struggled most against opposing guards. In their Quarter-Final matchup with Canada, we saw Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finish with 27 points on 48% from the field.
Both Schröder and Franz Wagner finished with 26 points each in the matchup with France during the group stage. Lastly, Yuki Kawamura for Japan finished with 29 points and shot 40% from beyond the arc.
Tonight with a chance at a Gold Medal on the line, look for Dennis to come out firing.

Victor Wembanyama 2+ 3s (-135) via BetOnline – Get a $500 WELCOME BONUS
We’re eating a little bit of juice here but I think it’s worth it. This German team is stingy defensively, they’ve held every team they’ve faced to under 78 points, so the juice could be worth the squeeze.
Wembanyama is coming off his worst game of the Olympics and France still handled the Canadian squad quite easily. France jumped out to a 13 point lead after the 1st quarter and never really looked back; eventually winning 83-72.
Victor shot 2/10 from the field and finished with just 7 points in 27 minutes of game time. He also finished with 12 rebounds but managed to shoot 0/6 from beyond the arc, despite the shorter 3-point line.
Wemby’s hit this line in 2 of the 4 games so far, including shooting 3/7 against Germany and he’s averaging 5.5 3-point attempts per game.
With everything on the line tonight, and Gobert now out of the starting lineup, France will be depending that much more on Wembanyama.
