One team has already been sent packing from the 2024 College World Series, and today a second team will join them as Florida and NC State face off to live to fight another day in Omaha (2:00 pm ET, ESPN).
On Saturday, both the Gators (34-29) and Wolfpack (38-22) suffered tough one-run losses. NC State overcame an early 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth against #2 Kentucky, but the Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and won it in the tenth on Mitchell Daly’s two-out walk-off homer.
In Saturday’s second game, Florida also fell into an early hole, as Texas A&M went up 3-0 after three innings. In the seventh, the Gators finally got on the board and pulled within one with two runs.
The game’s most pivotal moment came with one on and one out in the top of the ninth, when leadoff hitter Cade Kurland uncorked a long drive to right that looked like it might leave the yard and put UF ahead. However, Aggies star Jace Laviolette timed his jump perfectly and hauled in the would-be homer. Two batters later, Evan Aschenbeck shut the door with a strikeout of Ashton Wilson.
The winner of this afternoon’s matchup at Charles Schwab Field will meet the loser of this evening’s winner’s bracket matchup between the Wildcats and Aggies tomorrow (7:00 pm ET, ESPN). Will it be an all-SEC showdown, or will NC State potentially get a second crack at Kentucky?

Florida vs NC State Betting Analysis
Over the course of the season, pitching has not been a strength for either the Gators or Wolfpack.
For the season, Florida has a team ERA of 6.12 and is allowing an average of 6.65 runs per game. NC State has a team ERA of 6.06 and is allowing an average of 6.3 runs per game.
That certainly doesn’t mean that either team is devoid of talent on the mound or that there haven’t been some clutch performances in big moments.
Florida was able to stay in the game against Texas A&M because Fisher Jameson, Cade Fisher, and Brandon Neely tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in relief following starter Liam Peterson’s exit after only 2.1 innings.
In NC State’s opener against Kentucky, starting pitcher Sam Highfill (7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K) gave up three early runs but settled down and put up zeroes in each of his last three innings.
Will we see some big-time performances on the bump this afternoon? While there are some big bats on both sides, based on how things have trended thus far in Omaha, the under is the most appealing option. Through the first six games, the only game with more than 10 runs has been Tennessee’s 12-11 win over FSU on Friday, which is ultimately no surprise given the teams involved.
Obviously, the goal is to make it to tomorrow and then figure things out from there. That means that the hook may be quick if someone shows signs of struggling, and there won’t be any saving of the best bullpen arms with a potential tomorrow in mind.
