ZenSports, a mobile sports betting operator running under VIP Play, Inc., has acquired a sports wagering license in West Virginia. The Tennessee-based online sportsbook has the possibility of operating within the Mountaineer State, along with some online casino game options.
VIP Play, Inc. announced the approval of its interim license in West Virginia for iGaming and sports wagering managed services. Bruce Cassidy, VIP Play, Inc. CEO and Chairman of the Board, noted:
“The acquisition of our interim Sports Wagering and iGaming License in West Virginia marks a significant milestone in our journey to expand, underscoring our commitment to provide innovative experiences to a wider audience. As we grow our presence, our dedication to excellence stands firm, and we’re excited to play a role in enriching West Virginia’s dynamic gaming community.”
Moreover, VIP Play’s entry into West Virginia comes on the heels of a partnership with Wheeling Island Casino in Wheeling, West Virginia.
ZenSports’ New Proving Grounds in West Virginia
West Virginia will be the first state for VIP Play to operate ZenSports outside of their Tennessee territory. It also is indicative of the company’s interest in testing the waters of the online casino gaming market.
Compared to more prominent USA online casino markets like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, West Virginia has a more manageable industry. Connecticut is a tribal duopoly for iGaming while Delaware and Rhode Island have state-sanctioned monopolies for legal online casino play. This is why West Virginia represents a lower barrier to entry for VIP Play despite its smaller upside.
That said, ZenSports will enter the online sportsbook market that already has established brands operating within the Mountaineer State. Such brands include BetMGM Casino and FanDuel Casino who have been entrenched in both the sportsbooks and online casino markets.
However, ZenSports can still get a small slice of the West Virginia iGaming market. The potential revenue could represent much more revenue for VIP Play than its share of Tennessee sports betting winnings.
