Are We Headed for Another High-Scoring Match?

The Knight Riders opened the new season by taking on the Chennai Super Kings in the season’s first match, and KKR made a winning start to the new campaign with a six-wicket win over CSK.

KKR had to work a little for their win, as they surrendered 47 runs in the final three overs as MS Dhoni and CSK put up 131 runs for the loss of five wickets. But it proved to be a pretty straightforward chase for KKR, despite the loss of four wickets along the way. And on the third ball of the penultimate over, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer delivered the winning blow with a boundary.

The runs didn’t exactly flow in that match, which isn’t a surprise. The first match of a new seasons or a new situation can certainly be tricky to navigate. But the four matches since have not been left lacking in the runs department.

Bowling Must Improve for RCB to Earn First Win of 2022 IPL

That includes RCB’s season opener on Saturday against Punjab Kings, which took place in the same venue as today’s match. RCB put up a formidable total of 205 for the loss of just two wickets, with new addition and new captain Faf du Plessis top-scoring with 88 runs off of 57 balls.

Considering that they were without Australian star Glenn Maxwell, that was an impressive total for the Royal Challengers.

But as has been the case for RCB many times over the years, the bowlers did not get the job done. Not only did Punjab chase down the target, but they did also so with a full over to spare.

Australian bowlers Jason Behrendorff and Josh Hazlewood are both unavailable at the moment, RCB might be in some trouble today against KKR. Aaron Finch is unavailable, but the bowlers still have to deal with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, and English star Sam Billings.

Given what the Royal Challengers did against the Kings, you have to like their chances to put up a solid total if they have to bat first.
