We’ve got an NFC matchup for NFL Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys are winners of 3 of their last 4 and they welcome Baker and the krewe who have won four straight. A compelling matchup with playoff implications. Will Baker continue to bake or can Cooper Rush and company surprise again? Cowboys host the Buccaneers in Jerry’s world.
NFL Matchup Information
- Kickoff: Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET
- AT&T Stadium Dallas, Texas
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6) have won 4 straight
- Dallas Cowboys (6-8) coming of a win versus the Carolina Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Dallas Cowboys NFL Week 17
Cooper Rush has been on this Dallas Cowboys roster since 2017. The ten games he’s played this season are a career high. After a rough start after Prescott’s season ending injury, Rush settled, and last week was his best performance yet — throwing a career high three passing touchdowns.
Conversely, Baker Mayfield has lead his squad to four blistering wins, culminating in last week’s scorched earth handling of the Chargers. This could be another high scoring affair. Their defence is still banged up and without Antoine Winfield Jr. once again.

NFL Game Analysis
The simple analysis would be that Baker Reagan Mayfield simply comes into Jerry’s world and commits a hostile aggressive takeover just as he did in Los Angeles. The Cowboys are a baffling 1-6 at home. Furthermore, Tampa is 7-2 in their last 9 versus bottom 10 defences while the game has gone over in 6 of those 9. This looks to be a high scoring affair and such a game would be to the benefit of Liam Coen and the offence.
Mayfield is putting up MVP numbers in a season that could have easily been lost to a litany of injuries on both sides of the football. With 32 touchdowns to his name it’s likely he has some fun on Sunday Night Football.
‘America’s Team’ should not be completely discounted. Tampa Bay has two losses to Kirk Cousins who has been benched in Atlanta. Those losses came in heartbreaking fashion. The Buccaneers have a propensity to give up big plays.
The Cowboys have a marquee superstar known for just such feats. If CeeDee Lamb can get the ball he will wear down Todd Bowles depleted defence. CeeDee Lamb has scored three touchdowns in his last three prime-time games and against Tampa it is hard to doubt he finds the end zone again.
The Buccaneers are 8-3 when Mike Evans plays and the future member of the Hall of Fame is coming off 159 yards and two touchdowns. His pursuit of another 1,000 season continues. This could very well be a duel of WR1’s.
In order for the Cowboys to steal this one they will need to throw Baker Mayfield off. If they can cause pressure and sack him then he will habitually force it. A turnover or two and Dallas could be in this one. Fortunately, they have an elite edge rusher who will make Tristan Wirfs and krewe really work for it.

Protect Baker. Win the Game.
Micah Parsons has missed games and is still pursuing history just like Mike.
Micah Parsons has 8.5 sacks on the NFL season. He’s missed time during his fourth campaign due to a high ankle sprain which can be notoriously difficult to recover fully from. He is on the hunt for 10 and has limited time left to get there. Only four players have recorded 10-plus sacks in their first four seasons and they’re all enshrined in Canton, Ohio. Defences have gotten to Baker this season. The Broncos sacked him 7 times.
As the title reads: Protect Baker. Win the Game. If Micah Parsons has his way Baker will be on his back several times and then they Cowboys just might have a chance at the upset.
NFL Best Bets: Chasing History!
We’re going with the two men who have a lot to play for. Parsons wants to be just the fifth ever to record ten-plus sacks in his first four seasons. Mike Evans is chasing an 11th 1,000 yard season after returning from a hamstring pull. Baker Mayfield wants to get him to 1,000 badly. The Cowboys are 21st in passing yards allowed and 29th in rushing yards allowed. This defence will be carved up and in return Cowboys defence will have to go after Baker. NFL history is at stake in this matchup.
- o4.5 Sacks Game Total (+115)
- Micah Parson to Record a Sack – Yes (-130)
- Mike Evans o80.5 Rec. Yards (-110)
