If you happened to tune in to the Betting News Twitch channel on Friday evening, you would have been witnessed myself and some of my esteemed colleagues take part in the first–and maybe last, because who needs to see that again, really? –Betting News Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Considering how difficult it was for me to eat even three in two minutes, it is safe to say that I am happy to defer to the professionals to show it’s done. Also, after I’m done with the supply of hot dogs I purchased for practice and the contest, I may not be consuming another hot dog until 2024.
But speaking of the professionals, they will be showing how it’s done on Tuesday in the chaotic ten-minute Fourth of July tradition that is the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Once again, the dog-downing action will take place at the original Nathan’s location in Brooklyn, New York. The women’s contest will begin at 10:45 am ET and will be broadcast on ESPN3, while the men’s contest will begin at noon ET and be broadcast on ESPN2.
Will we see Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo take the honors yet again? Last year, Chestnut claimed his 15th title by hoovering down 63 hot dogs, 16 more than runner-up Geoffrey Esper. Sudo, meanwhile, returned to the contest after being absent in 2021 due to pregnancy, and claimed her eighth title by eating 40 hot dogs.
As you might expect, both Chestnut and Sudo are heavily favored to finish first at the frank-feasting festivities.
While you digest my numerous ways to refer to hot dog eating, let’s take a look at the contest odds.

- Michelle Lesco +900
- Sarah Rodriguez +1600
- Larell Marie Mele +2500
Will Both Men’s and Women’s Records Be Broken?
- Yes +850
- No -3000
Will Chestnut and Sudo Set New Records in 2023?
If you operate with optimism, you can drop some dollars on Esper or Lesco or one of the other contenders for either contest to pull a major upset.
But given the hot dog history that Chestnut and Sudo have made, there’s not a lot of value in betting against or on them.
If you plan to do some hot dog contest betting, the best places to look are further down the board.
Prior to eating “only” 63 hot dogs to win last year’s contest, Chestnut had hit the 70-hot dog mark in six consecutive contests since being upset by Matt Stonie in 2015.
He likely won’t have to reach that mark to win this year, unless his competition has made a major leap. But if you think he will down at least 71 dogs, you can back him to consume over 20,945.5 calories at -120. A hot dog and bun–sans condiments, because those are the rules–is 297 calories and consuming more than 20,945.5 calories would mean that he ate at least 71 hot dogs.
In 2021, Chestnut set his current Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest record, downing 76 dogs. Will he make a run at setting a new record this year? He is +200 to do so, while he is -325 to fall short.
Could Sudo surpass her mark of 48.5, which was also set in 2021? Like Chestnut, she is +200 to do so and -325 to fall short. A better option would be to back her to go over 43.5, which you can do at -130.

The hot dog eating contest betting odds mentioned in this article came from BetUS, but they aren’t the only sports betting site out there where you can place bets on the contest.
In fact, there are a number of online sportsbooks that carry odds for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and other entertainment and novelty markets, but the above books are four that we highly recommend.
