Superstars Headline Championship Saturday: Breeders’ Cup 2022

Saturday will be one of the most lucrative wagering days all year in horse racing. Breeders’ Cup annually has the largest wagering pools in American horse racing. Along with bigger payouts horseplayers will be treated to runs from some generational talent.

Breeders' Cup- Race 1

Post: 10:30 AM ET; $150k Maiden Special Weight going 7 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 13

• #6 FASHION KING (9-2) should improve off the first start and gets the top selection. The debut makes this one a major player.
• #1 DAKOTA RUN (12-1) is a price horse and has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 7 furlong distance.
• #12 REAGAN (4-1) should be part of the early pace in this spot. This one ran a solid number on debut and should improve.
• #13 DETERMINEDLY (20-1) has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot though the post is concerning.

Breeders' Cup- Race 2

Post: 11:05 AM ET; $195k Allowance Optional Claiming going 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 14

• #3 MESSIER (4-1) is the top pick. He seems to fit well enough here. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #5 GUN IT (6-1) is a solid runner that will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
• #14 FORTIN HILL (10-1) has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
• #1 ENDORSED (8-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.

Breeders' Cup- Race 3

Post: 11:50 AM ET; $1000k Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint going 7 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 13

• #3 CHI TOWN LADY (20-1) goes out for the Ward barn. Ward always has horses well prepped for Keeneland and this one gets Prat in the irons.
• #1 SLAMMED (15-1) has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #2 EDGEWAY (15-1) has knocked heads with some really good ones and could surprise in this spot.
• #4 CE CE (4-1) has been a proven winner in big spots before. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 7 furlong distance.

Breeders' Cup- Race 4

Post: 12:29 PM ET; $1000k Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf; Entries: 16

• #8 GOLDEN PAL (2-1) gets the top selection. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #4 CAMPANELLE (8-1) is a stablemate of the favorite and has the top overall power rating in the group. This one projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #7 ARREST ME RED (15-1) comes into the race in really good form. This one will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
• #12 BRAN (15-1) comes into the race in really good form. This one seems to fit well enough here.

Breeders' Cup- Race 5

Post: 1:10 PM ET; $1000k Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile going 1 mile on dirt; Entries: 11

• #5 GUNITE (7-2) is the top pick. He goes out for the Asmussen barn and gets Gaffalione in the irons.
• #9 CYBERKNIFE (9-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He projects to sit mid pack and come with one run. This one may benefit from a hot pace up front.
• #7 CODY'S WISH (5-2) should be competitive in this spot. This runner has come up big against better competition in recent outings.
• #2 SIMPLIFICATION (15-1) has races good enough to beat this group. If the pace gets cooking up front this one may be the steal of the weekend in a modest dirt mile by comparison to year’s past.

Breeders' Cup- Race 6

Post: 1:50 PM ET; $2000k Maker's Mark Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf going 1 3/16 miles on turf; Entries: 12

• #11 IN ITALIAN (7-2) is a pace play. There doesn’t appear to be a ton of speed and this one may just be able to jog on the front end leaving those with a solid kick, spinning their wheels.
• #3 NASHWA (5-2) looks like a really solid European in a race that they have been successful in. This one seems to be the best hope for the foreign contingent if she runs her race.
• #12 MOIRA (10-1) is a price horse and should be competitive in this spot. She has to be respected going out for the combination of Attard and Dettori. This one could get the right setup in this race.
• #4 ABOVE THE CURVE (9-2) has been running in some really solid races in Europe. This one does appear to be sitting on a big one.

Breeders' Cup- Race 7

Post: 2:30 PM ET; $2000k Qatar Racing Breeders' Cup Sprint going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 11

• #9 JACKIE'S WARRIOR (4-5) gets the top selection. He looks to be the class of the field. With no Jack Christopher this one should win for fun.
• #2 KIMARI (4-1) is the next most logical.
• #4 AMERICAN THEOREM (10-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #5 ALOHA WEST (12-1) is a price horse and could be in with a good shot to hit the board in this race. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.

Breeders' Cup- Race 8

Post: 3:10 PM ET; $2000k BetOnline Breeders' Cup Mile Presented by PDJF going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 16

• #4 MODERN GAMES (7-2) is the top pick. He should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #14 DOMESTIC SPENDING (8-1) draws wide but gets Brown and Prat on the lawn which is always a good combo.
• #6 IVAR (15-1) is a price horse and isn't without hope. He gets JJ Castellano in the irons. He is having a reemergent year in the irons.
• #11 ANNAPOLIS (10-1) is a price, but there is a legitimate argument to be made that this horse may be the one to beat in this spot. 10-1 may be a pipe dream but this one is a player.

Breeders' Cup- Race 9

Post: 3:55 PM ET; $2000k Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff going 1 1/8 miles on dirt; Entries: 8

• #1 MALATHAAT (3-1) looks best here. She has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/8 mile distance.
• #6 NEST (9-5) has had an unbelievable 3 year old campaign and is a major threat here.
• #4 CLAIRIERE (4-1) has more than shown that she belongs here and will be a formidable foe for those at the top of the market.
• #8 SOCIETY (6-1) has one way of going and that is fast. If no one goes with her, maybe she clears and holds on for at least a piece.

Breeders' Cup- Race 10

Post: 4:40 PM ET; $4000k Longines Breeders' Cup Turf going 1 1/2 miles on turf; Entries: 13

• #11 MISHRIFF (6-1) is one of the few in this race who have form lines this year that say superstar. Those form lines are a bit muddied by recent starts but the star power is there.
• #2 WAR LIKE GODDESS (9-2) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one may benefit from a hot pace up front.
• #7 NATIONS PRIDE (7-2) should be competitive in this spot. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Appleby and Buick. This one seems to fit well enough here.
• #6 CHANNEL MAKER (30-1) is a runner that you just want to see success from. This race will mark his 6th BC run. These are the kind of horses that the game needs more of.

Breeders' Cup- Race 11

Post: 5:40 PM ET; $6000k Longines Breeders' Cup Classic going 1 1/4 miles on dirt; Entries: 8

• #4 FLIGHTLINE (3-5) is the top pick. He is monster and probably the horse that can beat Flightline is Flightline.
• #1 TAIBA (8-1) should be competitive in this spot. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Baffert and Smith.
• #6 EPICENTER (5-1) has been one of the most consistent 3 year olds in the crop. Anywhere he runs, he’s a player.
• #7 OLYMPIAD (10-1) was at one point seen as a possible leader in the division. That has changed with subsequent efforts but there is talent there.

Breeders' Cup- Race 12

Post: 6:20 PM ET; $350k Fall Harvest S. Presented by Mint Gaming Hall going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 8

• #5 SHANTISARA (6-5) looks best here. She shouldn't have trouble with the 1 mile distance. This one has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
• #7 TECHNICAL ANALYSIS (3-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She may benefit from a hot pace up front.
• #2 WAKANAKA (12-1) looks to be the class of the field. This one could get the right setup in this race.
• #3 BURNING AMBITION (15-1) has to be respected going out for the combination of Cox and Geroux. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
