Saratoga Friday: Prioress Stakes Analysis, Selections (9/2)

Hot Peppers enters the Friday Saratoga feature as the tepid favorite. The Prioress Stakes appears to be wide open with half of the field at under odds of 10-1.

Saratoga- Race 1

Post: 1:05 PM ET; $88k Maiden Special Weight going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 10

• #6 MIM (6-1) debuts here and gets the top selection. This one has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
• #10 NICE 'N SPICY (6-1) should improve off the first start and had a productive debut. A little improvement makes this one dangerous
• #8 MAGGIE T (8-1) has solid bloodlines and experience on her side.
• #4 DARKNSTORMY (10-1) is a price horse who has hit the board at the 6 furlong distance.

Saratoga- Race 2

Post: 1:39 PM ET; $120k Allowance Optional Claiming going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf; Entries: 9

• #3 MAIL ORDER (7-5) is the top pick. She should be able to carry her speed over the entirety of the race.
• #2 HIT THE WOAH (5-2) will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run.
• #5 MISCHIEVOUS DREAM (3-1) seems to fit well enough here.
• #6 ELLANATION (5-1) is a better price and doesn’t have much separation from the top of this group.

• #2 MOST WANTED MAN (9-5) looks best here. He makes sense on speed figures.
• #3 TIZ A GIANT (2-1) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #4 OUTPERFORM (7-2) projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #1 GOOD MEDICINE (9-2) looks to be the class of the field.

• #8 MOSIENKO (7-2) gets the top selection. She has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #4 KHALI MAGIC (5-2) looks to be the class of the field.
• #2 THINKING IT OVER (6-1) has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
• #5 BUSTIN BAY (3-1) runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.

Saratoga- Race 5

Post: 3:21 PM ET; $115k Allowance going 1 3/16 miles on turf; Entries: 11

• #1 EYLARA (7-2) is the top pick. She will be rolling late and has a good closing kick that could get the job done here.
• #6 CLASSIC COLORS (4-1) appears to be a major player in this race and may benefit from a hot pace up front.
• #7 TRANSIENT (6-1) could be in with a shot in this race. She shouldn't have trouble with the 1 3/16 mile distance.
• #10 LISHEEN (12-1) is a price horse and has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.

• #5 BANTERRA (3-1) should improve off the first start and looks best here. She has to be respected going out for the combination of Asmussen and Prat.
• #10 SECURITY CODE (2-1) should improve off the debut and appears to be a major player in this race. She has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
• #3 SPINNING COLORS (8-1) could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end in career start number 2.
• #2 STONEWALL STAR (6-1) debuts here and seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest.

Selections: 5 – 10- 3 – 2

Saratoga- Race 7

Post: 4:29 PM ET; $50k Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on turf; Entries: 16

• #3 FIELDSTONE (3-1) gets the top selection. He goes out for the Sharp barn and gets Saez in the irons.
• #5 TOPIC CHANGER (4-1) goes out for the combination of Clement and Rosario. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #11 FAST GORDON (6-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He makes sense on speed figures.
• #8 DREAM OF A DAY (10-1) is a price horse and should be competitive in this spot. He has races good enough to beat this group.

Post: 5:05 PM ET; $150k Lucky Coin S. going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf; Entries: 10

• #1 BIG PACKAGE (7-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one will be rolling late and has a good closing kick that could get the job done here.
• #2 THE CRITICAL WAY (4-1) is the top pick. He has been in top form of late.
• #6 VOODOO ZIP (5-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He goes out for the Clement barn and gets Rosario in the irons.
• #5 THIN WHITE DUKE (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He makes sense on speed figures. This one will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run.

Post: 5:39 PM ET; $250k Prioress S. going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 10

• #2 HOT PEPPERS (7-2) looks best here. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one will likely be out on or near the lead and will look to hold off the charge to the wire.
• #4 MISCHIEVOUS DIANE (12-1) is a price horse and appears to be a major player in this race.
• #10 UNION LAKE (8-1) has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #1 WICKED HALO (5-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.

Post: 6:13 PM ET; $88k Maiden Special Weight going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 9

• #9 DREAMPOINT (4-1) gets the top selection. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #5 BERNARDINO (9-2) should be competitive in this spot. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Serpe and Saez.
• #8 CURLIN'S WISDOM (7-2) could be in with a shot in this race. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 mile distance. Rice and Lezcano team up here which is usually a good combo.
• #6 CONQUIST (3-1) comes into the race in really good form.
