Friday’s card at Del Mar is highlighted by the Daisycutter Stakes. The handicap race matches Leggs Galore and Twilight Gleaming in what looks like a great battle.
Handicap Races
The feature on the Friday Del Mar card is a handicap stakes race. These races are characterized by the racing office attempting to make it a fair contest.
The racing secretary will review the accomplishments of the various runners and assign each one a required weight to be carried. The better a horse is, the more weight they have to carry. The hope is that this gives the less accomplished runners a chance to get a piece of the purse.
The Daisycutter will feature a low weight of 118 for the #2 Xmas Surprise and the #6 Havana Love. The max weight to be carried will be by the #5 Leggs Galore who will carry 124 pounds.
