The final round of the 2024 U.S. Open is already underway, but there is still some time before the leaders tee it up in search of a title at Pinehurst.
When the dust settles later today, who will be holding the winner’s trophy?
As it stands, Bryson DeChambeau, the 2020 U.S. Open champion, is on course to become the most recent golfer to win the tournament multiple times.
At Winged Foot four years ago, DeChambeau shot a final-round 67 to claim a six-stroke victory. He entered the final 18 holes two shots behind 54-hole leader Matthew Wolff, but where Wolff and others faltered, DeChambeau delivered an under-par round to win going away.
On that occasion, DeChambeau was the hunter. But on this occasion, he will be trying to defend a lead.
After shooting a 67, his third straight under-par round, on Saturday, DeChambeau enters the final round at 7-under. His closest challengers are Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, and Matthieu Pavon, all of whom are at -4. Rounding out the top five are Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama, who are both at -2.
The only other players who are at par or better are Tony Finau (-1), Tyrrell Hatton (-1), Corey Conners (even par), Tom Kim (even), and Collin Morikawa (even).
Can DeChambeau make that advantage count? A three-shot lead is a decent margin, but things can be flipped on their head in even a single hole.
Odds to Win the 2024 U.S. Open
- Bryson DeChambeau -125
- Rory McIlroy +350
- Patrick Cantlay +800
- Ludvig Aberg +1600
- Matthieu Pavon +1800
- Hideki Matsuyama +2000

- Tony Finau +6500
- Collin Morikawa +6500
- Xander Schauffele +12500
- Tom Kim +15000
- Corey Conners +15000

Predictions & Picks for the Final Round of the U.S. Open
Who will win the 2024 U.S. Open?
DeChambeau has the lead entering the final round, and in each of the first two majors, a 54-hole lead was converted into a victory.
At the Masters, Scheffler (7-under) held a one-stroke lead over Morikawa (6-under) entering the final round. On Sunday, he shot a 4-under 68 and won by four strokes ahead of Aberg.
At the PGA Championship, co-leaders Schauffele and Morikawa (both at 15-under) were a shot ahead of Sahith Theegala (14-under) and two shots ahead of DeChambeau, Viktor Hovland, and Shane Lowry (all at 13-under) after 54 holes. In the final round at Valhalla, Schauffele shot a 6-under 65 to edge DeChambeau by a stroke and win his first major title.
DeChambeau is in a fantastic position entering his final 18, but McIlroy has managed to remain within striking distance, and beyond him being beyond due at a major, my gut is just pushing me to McIlroy.
Collin Morikawa will finish in the top 5 (+250)
Starting with the Masters in April, Morikawa has been in fantastic form over the last two months.
He finished tied for third at Augusta and tied for fourth at the PGA Championship, and he has finished in the top ten three other times, including a runner-up finish at the Memorial last week.
A 4-over 74 on Friday hurt his chances to contend at Pinehurst, but he bounced back big time with a bogey-free 4-under 66 yesterday. It will take a lot for him to be in the mix for the win today, but I expect him to finish strong and land a third straight major top five. Run, don’t walk to the incredible value here.
