Scottish Open 2022 Betting: Back Scottie Scheffler in Scotland

There’s an exciting buzz going around the golf world as the 2022 British Open Championship is just over a week away. However, there’s still one more stop that the 2022 PGA Tour has to get to before the sport’s next major: this year’s Scottish Open.

For the fourth straight year, the Scottish Open will be held at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The course itself is 7,136 yards long and par is set at 71. It also marks the first time that the tournament will be co-sanctioned by both the European and PGA Tours.

Australia’s Min Woo Lee won the tournament last year, finishing 18-under-par while defeating both Thomas Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick in a playoff. It remains to be seen if Lee can repeat as champion now that the competition level has increased.

Best Bets for the 2022 Scottish Open

Scottie Scheffler (+1100)

Scottie Scheffler has been a bettor’s dream throughout the 2022 PGA TOUR, making him one of the top Scottish Open entrants to watch this week.

Scheffler currently leads his peers with four victories this season. He’s landed wins at the Masters Tournament and Arnold Palmer Invitational, showing that he has no issue stepping up on the biggest stages.

In total, the 25-year-old has placed inside of the top 25 in 15 of his last 20 events. If that wasn’t impressive on its own, he’s also landed in the top 10 nine times and has three second-place placements in addition to his four victories.

Even though Scheffler doesn’t have the Scottish Open experience that some of the European competitors possess, he’s still a threat on any golf course that he steps foot on. The Renaissance Club should be no different.

On top of that, Scheffler tends to play well in his final showing before a major tournament this year. He won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play before the Masters, placed T-15 at the AT&T Byron Nelson before the PGA Championship and finished T-18 at the RBC Canadian Open a week before the U.S. Open.

Ryan Fox (+4000)

If you’re looking to get a little more value out of your 2022 Scottish Open pick, look no further than the European Tour’s Ryan Fox.

Fox has been one of the hottest golfers across the pond in recent weeks. The 35-year-old has recorded seven top-10 finishes in his last 10 outings, with five of those events seeing him land inside of the top five.

Fox’s best performance of the 2022 European Tour came at the Ras al Khaimah Classic back in February, when he won by finishing 22-under-par. He’s yet to win since then, but he’s placed second or third in three of his last four events.

Fox doesn’t have the best Scottish Open history, but he did place T-4 and T-6 in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Unfortunately, he hasn’t placed better than T-44 at the event since then.

Nevertheless, momentum is evidently on Fox’s side and even though he’s set to face some tough talent, he’s more than capable of holding his own in North Berwick.

Sam Burns Top 5 (+650)

Like Scheffler, Sam Burns has been one of the best competitors on the 2022 PGA TOUR. He may not have four wins like his counterpart, but Burns’ three victories this season are more than most can say they have.

Burns is looking to bounce back after missing the cut at the Travelers Championship nearly two weeks ago. Prior to that, he was on a roll, placing T-20 or better in five of his previous eight events, including four top-four showings.

Although he’s proven that he can win any given tournament, Burns’ inconsistency has me avoiding him as the outright winner. After all, he’s failed to make the cut in six of 19 events played on the tour.

Still, I like him as a top-five pick. It’s something that he’s accomplished six times already this year or eight if you count the unofficial Hero World Challenge and QTE Shootout events.

Burns rarely has back-to-back poor showings, so look for him to have a strong performance at the Scottish Open.

Will Zalatoris Top 5 (+500)

Another way to get some decent value at the 2022 Scottish Open is by going with Will Zalatoris for a top-five finish at +500.

Unlike some of his fellow PGA competitors, Zalatoris does have Scottish Open experience. He entered the tournament for the first time last year, placing T-26 at the Renaissance Club. It wasn’t the most glamorous showing, but it did provide him with some experience that could give him the edge this week.

Furthermore, Zalatoris has been finding himself near the top of the leaderboard in recent months. He’s finished sixth or better in six of his last eight events, finishing second twice over that stretch.

Zalatoris is still searching for his first-ever PGA Tour victory and he might come close to it in Scotland this week. As long as he can keep his newfound momentum going, a top-five finish isn’t out of the question.
