With the Fourth of July being this week, it is perhaps only fitting that this week’s PGA Tour stop, the John Deere Classic, is a tournament sponsored by a brand that is as American as apple pie.
The tournament, which will take place at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, won’t feature big names like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Scottie Scheffler.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth following, especially if you are into golf betting.
Last year, J.T. Poston won the John Deere Classic, with his score of 21-under par finishing three better than Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo.
Poston will be aiming to defend his title and pick up his third career PGA Tour win. But last year’s winner is not the favorite in this year’s field, as Denny McCarthy tops the odds to win the John Deere Classic.
Will McCarthy finally pick up his first PGA Tour win? Read on for our golf predictions and picks for this week’s tournament.

John Deere Classic Predictions and Picks
Tournament Winner Prediction & Pick: Denny McCarthy (+1400)
Going with the favorite may seem like the safest play, but there is nothing wrong with that in this spot.
McCarthy, who finished runner-up to Viktor Hovland in a playoff at The Memorial, has finished inside the top ten five times, including a tie for seventh last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The 30-year-old has also finished in the top 20 on five other occasions. He has been knocking on the door of a win, and it is only a matter of time before he achieves that success.
Other John Deere Classic Tournament Picks
Odds are via BetUS as of Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
Russell Henley to finish in the top ten (+200 at BetUS)
Other than a missed cut at the PGA Championship, Henley has been a consistent name in the top 20 of tournaments he has entered.
In his last nine tournaments, Henley has finished in the top 20 eight times. The lone exception was the PGA Championship, where he finished +7 in his two rounds.
There is a lot of value with backing to keep the top-20 finishes going (-120 at BetUS), but with none of the PGA Tour’s big, big names in the John Deere Classic field, I like Henley’s chances to finish inside the top ten.
Adam Hadwin to finish in the top 20 (+120)
Hadwin was in the headlines recently for being taken out by security while trying to celebrate with Nick Taylor after his compatriot’s historic Canadian Open win. But he nearly had the headlines for a different reason last week, as he came up short in the playoff at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
It has been a tough task for Hadwin to string together consecutive good finishes, as he has had back-to-back top-20 finishes only once this season.
But as I stated with Henley, I think the lack of big names at the John Deere Classic stands to be beneficial for Hadwin.
Emiliano Grillo to finish in the top 20 (+140 at BetUS)
Grillo finished 15th at the Travelers Championship in his most recent event, and he has had a number of solid finishes this season, including four top-five finishes. I really like the value here.
Chad Ramey to finish in the top 20 (+360 at BetUS)
There are some less risky options on the board than Ramey, but this value is too good to pass up.
At the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Ramey finished tied for 17th, and he was in the 60s in all four rounds at the tournament. Look for him to build off of that and produce a solid performance and result at the John Deere Classic.
