After Justin Thomas won his second career PGA Championship over the weekend, the golfing world’s attention shifts to the next event on the calendar: the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Also referred to as the Colonial National Invitation, the Charles Schwab Challenge takes place every May at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The beautiful course is 7,209 yards in length while par is set to 70.
Jason Kokrak walked away as the winner of the 2021 edition of the tournament, finishing with an overall score of 266 and two strokes ahead of second-place Jordan Spieth.

Best Bets for the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge
Jordan Spieth (+1300)
Sometimes, it’s wise to go with someone who has a lot of history at a certain course. It just so happens that Jordan Spieth has plenty of that, which should come in handy this week.
Spieth has played the Charles Schwab Challenge nine times over his career, landing in the top 10 on seven occasions. He won it for the first and only time back in 2016, shooting 67 or better in every round.
Aside from his victory at the Colonial Country Club, Spieth has also placed second at the Charles Schwab Challenge three times, with the most recent being last year. Needless to say, he has what it takes to go deep.
His 2022 PGA TOUR play has also been solid, highlighted by him winning the RBC Heritage and placing second at the AT&T Byron Nelson in his last three outings.
At +1300 odds, it’s hard to go wrong with Spieth in Fort Worth.
Will Zalatoris (+2200)
Another name that’s been warming up on the 2022 PGA TOUR is Will Zalatoris.
The 25-year-old began the season with a number of ups and downs but has since been putting things together. Through his last five PGA appearances, Zalatoris has placed sixth or better four times — including a second-place finish at the PGA Championship.
He’s now finished T-7 or better in six of the 15 events he’s competed in, which translates to a percentage of 40%.
Unfortunately, Zalatoris doesn’t have the most history at the Colonial Country Club. His lone Charles Schwab Challenge appearance was just last year, resulting in him finishing in 59th place.
Having said that, the only direction for Zalatoris to go is up. Taking his recent play into account, bettors should like his chances of winning this week.
Daniel Berger (+4100)
If bettors are looking for a bit more value at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge, they should consider Daniel Berger to win it all at +4100 odds.
Like Spieth, Berger is one of the former champions returning to Forth Worth. He captured the Charles Schwab Challenge title back in 2020, overcoming Collin Morikawa in a playoff. Since then, he placed 20th in 2021.
Although Berger has been hit-or-miss during the 2022 golf season, he’s still placed top 25 in seven of the nine events he’s played. He even helped the United States capture the Ryder Cup and finished T-7 at the Hero World Challenge, an unofficial event.
He’s also placed top five on two separate occasions, showing that he has the ability to be in it until the end.
You can never go wrong with a past champion, which is why Berger is a golfer that should be on everyone’s radar.
Justin Thomas Top 10 (+160)
Nobody has more momentum ahead of the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge than Justin Thomas, who’s fresh off his aforementioned 2022 PGA Championship win.
Finishing near the top of the leaderboard isn’t anything new for Thomas, who has eight top-10 placements in 13 2022 PGA TOUR events. In fact, he’s placed T-8 or better in three of his last four outings.
Thomas has only played the Colonial Country Club twice, finishing T-10 in 2020 and T-40 last year. Taking the fact that he’s already finished T-10 and has a lot of momentum on his side, there’s no harm in putting a bit of money on a top-10 finish this week.
Collin Morikawa Top 10 (+210)
The 2022 PGA TOUR has been a struggle for Collin Morikawa as of late. The talented 25-year-old’s placement has worsened in each of his last three appearances, resulting in a T-55 finish at the PGA Championship.
The good news for Morikawa is that a trip to Fort Worth could be what he needs. He may have only entered the Charles Schwab Challenge twice before this week, but those appearances resulted in a second-place finish in 2020 before placing T-14 last year.
Morikawa is one of the best golfers in the world when he’s at the top of his game. He has an excellent chance to prove that he can get there again this week while making bettors some extra cash on the side.
