Next week, the Presidents Cup will take the golf spotlight as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and the USA will look to maintain its dominance in the event. This week, one of the biggest non-majors in the world is on the schedule, as the BMW PGA Championship will take place at the Wentworth Club in England.
The BMW PGA Championship is considered the DP World Tour’s flagship event, and it is one of the most lucrative events on the tour. There is a total prize fund of $9 million USD, and the winner of this year’s tournament will receive $1.53 million USD.
Last year’s BMW PGA Championship was won by Ryan Fox, who edged Tyrrell Hatton and Aaron Rai by a stroke.
Fox is back to defend his title, but he isn’t among the favorites to win. Everyone in the field is looking up at Rory McIlroy, who won this tournament in 2014 and will hope to become the tenth golfer to win the BMW PGA Championship twice and join the likes of Nick Faldo, the late Seve Ballesteros, and Colin Montgomerie on that list.

BMW PGA Championship Predictions & Picks
Rory McIlroy to win the BMW PGA Championship (+610)
McIlroy had another agonizing near-miss this past weekend at the Irish Open, where he held a two-shot lead late on Sunday but as was the case at the U.S. Open, he couldn’t wrap up the victory or even force a playoff, as he finished a stroke behind Rasmus Hojgaard.
The near misses have to be tough, but he keeps putting himself in position and should fancy his chances this week. Along with his PGA Tour wins this year at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and Wells Fargo Championship, he finished in the top five in five other PGA Tour events, and his results in three previous DP World Tour events this year are tied for second (Dubai Invitational), first (Hero Dubai Desert Classic), and second (Irish Open). Going with the favorite isn’t always the right move, but it is in this instance.
Adam Scott to finish in the top 5 (+275)
Next week, Scott will take part in his 11th Presidents Cup, but this week he will be looking to pick his first tournament win since the 2020 Genesis Invitational.
He may come up short, but if he takes his form from his PGA Tour stretch run, he will be a top contender throughout.
From February to June, Scott had only one top-ten finish on the PGA Tour. But he finished second at the Scottish Open and tied for tenth at the Open Championship, then closed out the FedEx Cup Playoffs with a tie for second at the BMW Championship and a tie for fourth at the TOUR Championship.
Aaron Rai to finish in the top 10 (+200)
Rai had a strong summer on the PGA Tour, winning the Wyndham Championship and scoring top-five finishes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (tied for second) and Genesis Scottish Open (tied for fourth), and he qualified for all three FedEx Cup playoff events.
Now he’s back on home soil to try to finish a spot better than he did in last year’s BMW PGA Championship, and after a breakout year for the 29-year-old, you have to like his chances this week.
Billy Horschel to finish in the top 20 (+110)
In 2021, Horschel became only the second American to win the BMW PGA Championship, and he should be in the mix this week. In his two appearances after winning the tournament, he tied for ninth in 2022 and tied for 18th last year.
