Sunday will be one of the best days on the 2022 sporting calendar for auto racing fans and bettors, with the Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix, and Coca-Cola 600 all taking place.
Leclerc Outpaces Sainz for Fifth Pole of Season
In Monaco, home favorite Charles Leclerc will be looking to erase some miserable Monaco memories and reclaim top spot in the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship standings.
At last week’s Spanish Grand Prix, Leclerc started on pole and was in a commanding position in the race as it approached the halfway point. But on lap 27 of 66, his Ferrari lost power. As a result, Verstappen took over the lead, and, with his eventual dominant win, the championship lead.
After beating out teammate Carlos Sainz and the Red Bull duo of Verstappen and Sergio Perez, Leclerc will be on pole for the third straight race and fifth time this season, and it is his second straight Monaco pole.
Any finish will beat his result last year, when he was unable to even start the race due to a driveshaft issue on the way to the grid. But he will be looking to erase that sour taste and slip past Verstappen to get his title charge back on track following last week’s crushing disappointment in Catalunya.

Monaco Grand Prix Predictions and Picks
Winner Prediction: Charles Leclerc (-250)
Leclerc had the worst luck imaginable at his home race last year and in last week’s race, but things have gone his and Ferrari’s way more this year than in recent years. Look for him to become the first Monegasque driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix since Louis Chiron in 1931, in the third edition of the race.
Monaco Grand Prix Picks
- Sergio Perez to have a podium finish (+120 at BetOnline)
Perez scored a Monaco Grand Prix podium while with Force India in 2016, and he is good value to get back there tomorrow.
Sainz’s fourth-place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix was his worst finish in the four races he has finished this season, but his day has ended early twice already in six races.
- Valtteri Bottas to have a points finish (-130 at BetOnline)
Bottas starts 12th tomorrow, so he will have some work to do to get into the points. But he has finished in the points in the five races he has finished this season, which is an excellent achievement. He has raced like a man with something to prove, and he is good value to continue his solid start to life with Alfa Romeo.
