After a few weeks to maximize the anticipation for the home stretch, the Formula 1 season resumes this afternoon with the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas (3:00 pm ET, ABC).
Will we see the race for the World Drivers’ Championship take another turn today?
Yesterday, Max Verstappen extended his World Drivers’ Championship lead over Lando Norris with a victory in the sprint race. With Norris finishing third behind Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr., the lead moved from 52 to 54 points.
Norris has finished ahead of Verstappen in each of the last four races, including last time out in Singapore, where the McLaren dominated to pick up his third win of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Verstappen (-300 at Bovada) enters the United States Grand Prix still favored to edge out Norris (+225) for a fourth straight title, but if Norris can reel off three victories in three weeks in Austin, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo, the tension will be high when Formula 1 returns to the United States for the Las Vegas Grand Prix next month.
Norris may have come up short in the sprint, but he came through in race qualifying to claim pole for the sixth time this season and the fourth time in five races. Will he convert pole position into a win for the third time this year? Notably, Verstappen, who will start second, is favored to win today’s race, not Norris.
Odds to Win the 2024 United States Grand Prix

- Lewis Hamilton +15000
- Pierre Gasly +25000
- Fernando Alonso +25000

United States Grand Prix Predictions & Picks
Lando Norris to win the United States Grand Prix
Could Verstappen break his eight-race winless run today? It is encouraging that he won the sprint race and topped the charts in the first two rounds of qualifying before just missing out on pole. But the betting value is with Norris, who did well to bounce back in qualifying after finishing six seconds behind Verstappen in yesterday’s 19-lap sprint race.
McLaren to score the most team points (+150 at BetOnline)
A Verstappen win could help Red Bull (+200) come out on top even if Perez doesn’t do much once again, and Ferrari (also +150) have Sainz starting third and Leclerc fourth.
But with Norris on pole and Piastri starting fifth, McLaren have a great chance to have double top-four finishes for the fifth straight race and the seventh time in eight races.
