Max Verstappen is motoring towards yet another Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship crown, but there appears to be at least some potential variety and excitement ahead this season based on how things have played out thus far ahead of today’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Verstappen has won four of the first six races, and with a 33-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez, he is well on his way to another dominant title win.
But four wins for Verstappen means that someone else has won the other two races. On top of that, neither victory belongs to Perez, who has three runner-up finishes. Those wins belong to Carlos Sainz Jr., who won the Australian Grand Prix, and Lando Norris, who captured his first career Formula 1 win two weeks ago at the Miami Grand Prix.
Last season, only three of 22 races were not won by Verstappen. Perez won the Australian Grand Prix and Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and Sainz accounted for the lone non-Red Bull win with his outstanding drive to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.
So, through just six races, there have already been more non-Red Bull wins than all of last season.
Will the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix be added to the list? Verstappen will start on pole for the seventh consecutive time this season and eighth straight overall dating back to last season, but will he finish there?

Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Predictions & Picks
In qualifying yesterday, Verstappen edged out the McLaren duo of Piastri and Norris to keep his pole streak going.
However, due to an investigation deeming Piastri guilty of impeding Kevin Magnussen during Q1, the Australian has been dropped to fifth.
Therefore Norris will instead start second, with Leclerc, who joined Norris and runner-up Verstappen on the podium in Miami, starting third. Sainz will start on the second row alongside his Ferrari teammate as they seek to maintain a healthy grip over McLaren for second place in the World Constructors’ Championship standings.
Among other notable qualifying results, Yuki Tsunoda will start seventh, while Perez failed to make Q3 and will start 11th.
For Tsunoda, it marks the fifth time in the 2024 Formula 1 season that he will start from a points position. To date, his conversion rate has been very good. He converted a top-10 starting position into points in Australia, his home race in Japan, and in Miami. His only miss was in Saudi Arabia, where he finished 14th after starting ninth.
Will he convert again today? Two years ago, when this race was last held, Tsunoda finished seventh after starting 12th. Also, in 2021, he finished 12th after starting at the very back of the 20-car field.
Could Tsunoda have his best result of the season today? He is -350 for a top-ten finish, but +225 for a top-six finish for Tsunoda is absolutely worth a look when he has three points finishes in his last four races.
The best value elsewhere lies in taking Fernando Alonso to bag a top-ten finish (+125 at BetOnllne) despite having to start 19th after crashing in practice and struggling in qualifying. The odds are certainly against him, as moving through the field will not be an easy feat. But it is worth a play, nonetheless.
Of course, everyone will be trying to chase down Verstappen, who should claim his fifth win of the season in convincing fashion.
