The first three races of the 2025 Formula 1 season have produced three different winners. Will we see a fourth different winner in Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix?

McLaren drivers took the season’s first two races, as Lando Norris claimed the Australian Grand Prix and Oscar Piastri won the Chinese Grand Prix.
Last week, Max Verstappen kicked off a stretch of back-to-back-to-back race weeks by winning the Japanese Grand Prix for the fourth consecutive season.
By virtue of his 64th career Formula 1 win, the four-time defending champion enters this weekend’s race one point behind Norris at the top of the World Drivers’ Championship standings, with Piastri a further dozen points back and Russell 17 points off top spot.
Current Formula 1 2025 World Drivers’ Championship Standings (Through 3 of 24 Races)
- Lando Norris (McLaren) – 62 points
- Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 61
- Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 49
- George Russell (Mercedes) – 45
- Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) – 30
- Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 20
- Alexander Albon (Williams) – 18
- Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) – 15
- Esteban Ocon (Haas) – 10
- Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) – 10
Will the top four see a significant shakeup at Sakhir?
Piastri will start on pole, as he finished 0.168 seconds ahead of Russell and 0.333 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc. It was not such a pleasant day for Norris, who will start sixth, or for Verstappen, who will start seventh.

Bahrain Grand Prix Predictions and Picks
In the history of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the polesitter has won the race ten times in 20 races.
However, half of those have come in the last seven races, with the lone exceptions being 2019, when Leclerc started on pole but Hamilton won the race, and 2021, when Verstappen started on pole but Hamilton won the race.
Hamilton, who saw his best qualifying time deleted due to exceeding track limits, will start ninth and is highly unlikely to add to his record of five Bahrain Grand Prix wins and 105 career Formula 1 wins.
However, the outlook is a rather promising one for Piastri, who won at Shanghai last month after taking his first career Formula 1 pole.
Also, polesitters are three for three thus far this season. In addition to Piastri’s Chinese GP win, Norris won from pole in Melbourne, and Verstappen won from pole at Suzuka.
That run will end at some point, but do not expect it to this weekend. Unfortunately, while the outlook is positive for Piastri and for McLaren, there is no value in backing him to win or for McLaren to be the winning constructor (-500). However, some worthwhile options could emerge for other bets.
