Combat sports fans have seen boxers and MMA fighters bounce back and forth between disciplines for years now. Saturday night hosts the latest example of the two worlds colliding when former UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz clash for a 10-round boxing matchup in Anaheim, CA.
Masvidal and Diaz have already gone to war with each other inside of a UFC cage, but they only have a combined two professional boxing matchups between them. In other words, time will tell who’ll have the more successful transition from the octagon to the squared circle.
As with most big-time boxing tilts, Saturday night’s main event is laced with betting options for expert and novice bettors alike.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz Boxing Preview & Betting Trends
Although neither combatant boasts a ton of boxing experience, Jorge Masvidal finds himself as BetOnline’s odds-on favorite this weekend. The inaugural UFC BMF Champion sits at -275 odds to defeat Nate Diaz at Honda Center tomorrow night, with an implied win probability of 73.3%.
These men aren’t strangers to one another. Masvidal and Diaz squared off at UFC 244 to crown the first-ever BMF titleholder, resulting in a third-round TKO victory for Masvidal, who proceeded to lose his next four fights in a row.
Nevertheless, Masvidal heads into the upcoming matchup with more boxing experience than Diaz. He was a bare-knuckle fighter before leaping to the MMA world and even picked a majority decision win over Joseph Benjamin in his sole boxing bout over 19 years ago. We also can’t forget about the fact that “Gamebred” has proven that he knows how to finish his opponents off, racking up 16 knockouts in 52 career MMA fights.
Meanwhile, Diaz’s lone venture into the boxing world didn’t go as planned. The former Ultimate Fighter winner stepped into the ring with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul last August and looked extremely out of place as he fell via unanimous decision. Sure, Diaz’s cardio and endurance looked fine, but his punching technique left much to be desired.
If Diaz seriously focused on improving his skills over the last year, he might be underrated by oddsmakers. At the same time, it’s hard to imagine he’s doing this fight for anything other than a payday, so chances are he’ll look the same (or even worse) as he did last August.
Does former UFC star Jorge Masvidal have what it takes to give Nate Diaz another loss?
As far as how this fight could unfold, BetOnline favors that Saturday’s showdown will go the distance (-210). It makes sense given that neither man has recorded a knockout inside of a boxing ring.
With that in mind, it isn’t shocking to see that Masvidal is favored to win via decision at +105 odds. He also sits at +220 to defeat Diaz via KO/TKO, however, that seems unlikely due to his lack of recent boxing experience.
If there is a knockout victory, though, BetOnline implies that it’s most likely to occur for Masvidal in either Rounds 7 or 8 (+600). As for Diaz, he’s most likely to knock the favorite out in the same timeframe; albeit at +2200 odds.

Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz Prediction & Best Bet
After how uninspiring Nate Diaz looked against Jake Paul, I’m siding with Jorge Masvidal this weekend. While neither fighter is in their physical prime, Masival seems to be closer to it than Diaz. If “Gamebred” can land some significant shots early on he could have this bout in the bag.
However, due to the lack of overall boxing experience, I’ll stick with Masvidal winning via decision.
Masvidal vs. Diaz Prediction: Jorge Masvidal wins
Masvidal vs. Diaz Best Bet: Masvidal via decision (+105)
