Paul vs Tyson Boxing Predictions & Best Bets
Jake Paul heads into Friday night’s boxing match as BetOnline’s -260 favorite over Mike Tyson. Those odds carry an implied win probability of 72.2%, emphasizing just how much faith oddsmakers are putting into the 27-year-old combatant.
If this fight were taking place 30 years ago, Tyson would easily be the favorite. The multi-time champion is one of the best boxers that the sport has ever seen and likely wouldn’t break a sweat against Paul in his prime.
Having said that, Tyson is just a couple of years away from his 60th birthday and is no longer in top physical shape. The 58-year-old veteran’s workout videos ahead of the fight have been impressive, no doubt, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’ve yet to see if Tyson is still good enough to compete in the ring. After all, it’s been over 19 years since he last fought in a professional boxing match — a sixth-round loss to Kevin McBride.
Can Jake Paul take advantage of Mike Tyson’s edge in this boxing match?
Meanwhile, Paul has done a decent job at building up a boxing resume for himself. Although he’s yet to face someone on Tyson’s level, the Cleveland, OH native has picked up wins over former MMA fighters like Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, and Anderson Silva.
That’s without mentioning how Paul also owns seven knockout victories to his name. Could we see him add an eighth name to that list at the end of the week?
As impressive as Paul has been, it’s in his best interest not to underestimate Tyson. The latter might not be as quick on his feet as he once was, but that won’t matter if the odds-on favorite leaves the door open for a KO blow.
Taking everything into account, I will predict Paul to win on Friday. Although I’m not ruling out a Tyson victory, his age is concerning as is the fact that he’s done nothing outside of fight Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout in the last two decades.
I won’t be surprised if both fighters avoid going for the knockout punch. Paul likely doesn’t want to know what getting KO’d by Tyson feels like while the latter will do his best to keep a loss to the former off his record. That’s why Paul winning via decision is the best bet here.
