Fury vs Ngannou Fight Preview
Oddsmakers are firmly on Fury’s side when it comes to this upcoming bout. The boxing legend is favored to beat Ngannou at -1600 moneyline odds on Bovada, which carries an implied win probability of 94.1%.
Fury has been one of the most dominant heavyweights that this sport has ever seen. He’s yet to lose inside of the squared circle with his only non-victory coming when he fought Deontay Wilder to a 12-round draw back in December 2018.
Since that draw, Fury has gone on to win six fights in a row. Five of those victories came via knockout, including when he most recently landed a TKO win over Derek Chisora to retain the WBC heavyweight title last December.
The victory helped improve Fury’s career finish rate to 72.7%.
Meanwhile, it’s going to be interesting to see how Ngannou handles the biggest test of his combat sports career.
There’s no ignoring what the 37-year-old accomplished in the cage. Ngannou fought to a 17-3 MMA record with 12 knockout victories during that span. He also held the UFC Heavyweight Championship and was on a six-fight winning streak until his contract expired earlier this year.
Ngannou isn’t totally new to boxing, either. While he’s yet to have a professional fight, the sport has always interested him and he even trained to become a boxer in his early 20s. At the same time, that minor level of experience doesn’t compare to everything Fury has accomplished.
Ngannou is also five inches shorter with a two-inch reach disadvantage, leaving time to tell if he can find a way to overcome both physical and experience-related obstacles.
Fury vs Ngannou Betting Trends and Markets
While the Fury vs. Ngannou moneyline indicates who’s most likely to win, it doesn’t necessarily shed light on how the fight will unfold. Fortunately, BetOnline’s various markets help shed more light.
For instance, the sportsbook is favoring a shorter fight. The upcoming bout most likely won’t go the distance (-900) with the Under on the 4.5-round total being favored at -130 odds.
The projected length likely has to do with Ngannou having next-to-zero boxing experience. Only time will tell if he has what it takes to last long with the “Gypsy King.”
With that in mind, it isn’t a surprise to see Fury being favored to win via KO/TKO (-500). He’s knocked out 24 of his 34 previous opponents and holds an 83.3% finish rate in his last six fights.
If you’re trying to figure out when this fight could end, Fury is most likely to achieve victory in Rounds 3 or 4 (+250). Having said that, he hasn’t won a fight that early since retiring Sefer Seferi back in 2018.
Fury vs Ngannou Prediction and Best Bets
As great as Ngannou has been inside of a cage, he’s out of his element in Saudi Arabia. Fury has already taken out bigger and more experienced opponents throughout his career, so I doubt he’ll have an issue spoiling his opponent’s boxing debut.
As far as the best bets go, I can see Fury winning via KO/TKO. Again, he’s knocked out five of his six previous opponents and won’t have a problem doing the same to Ngannou, who doesn’t have the defense or cardio to last a full 10 rounds.
I also like the idea of this fight going longer than 4.5 rounds. On top of seven of Fury’s last eight fights going five rounds or longer, Ngannou is a tough customer and should put up somewhat of a fight early on.
I won’t be shocked if Fury toys with his foe for a little before taking him out in the sixth or seventh frame.
Bet: Fury via KO/TKO (-500 on Bovada) or o4.5 Rounds (+100 on Bovada)
