In a fight that has been a long time coming, Errol Spence Jr. will face off with Terence Crawford this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
The upcoming matchup between Spence and Crawford, two of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, is one rarely seen in the sport, not just in the present but in the history of boxing.
It will be just the 13th welterweight unification bout in boxing history, and the winner will become the first undisputed welterweight champion since the WBO became recognized as one of boxing’s major sanctioning bodies in 2007, joining the WBA, WBC, and IBF.
Currently, three boxers hold all four belts in their respective divisions: Devin Haney (lightweight), Jermell Charlo (light middleweight), and Canelo Alvarez (super middleweight).
Which of these undefeated boxers will join that group on Saturday night? Crawford is the favorite but not by a wide margin, according to the latest odds.

Will Errol Spence Jr. Add the WBO Belt to Complete His Collection?
This will be the 29th fight of Spence’s professional career, and of his first 28 fights, 22 have ended by knockout or technical knockout.
That includes his most recent bout on April 16, 2022, when he scored a tenth-round TKO win against Yordenis Ugas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. With that result, Spence averted a fourth straight decision after the scorecards were needed to decide his bouts against Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Danny Garcia.
Should the long time between fights be considered a potential issue? No, considering that his fight with Ugas came more than 16 months after he defeated Danny Garcia via unanimous decision, also at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Typically, the top boxers in the world don’t fight frequently once they have established that standing. So, extended time between bouts should not be taken into consideration when determining who to bet on, unless it’s a case of extreme rust.
Will Bud Become the Best in Yet Another Division?
As is the case with Errol Spence Jr., Terence Crawford enters this fight with a high knockout percentage. Of his 39 wins in his 39 professional fights, 30 have come by KO or TKO.
Crawford’s last eight wins have come by one of those methods. That includes his December win over David Avanesyan in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.
The last time that Crawford won by another method was May 20, 2017, when Felix Diaz’s trainer mercifully threw in the towel after the tenth round with Diaz in serious strife. That was Crawford’s penultimate fight at light welterweight, as he made the move to welterweight following his KO win over Julius Indongo in August 2017.
In his welterweight debut, he defeated Jeff Horn via TKO to take the WBO belt and has held it since. On Saturday, he will have a chance to take the WBA, WBC, IBF belts, which have belonged to Spence since 2022, 2019, and 2017, respectively.
Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford Prediction and Picks
This is a fight that Crawford has wanted for a long time. In recent years, he has called out Spence on multiple occasions. Now he finally has the fight he wanted. Will he make the most of the occasion?
There is a strong argument for picking either fighter here. They both have a strong pedigree, and ultimately, who you bet on might be down to who you personally favor more so than who has an advantage.
It is worth noting that it is rare to see odds as tight as these for even major bouts. That speaks to how little there is between these two experienced, talented boxers.
While both Spence and Crawford have racked up the KOs and TKOs in their careers, don’t expect to see one occur on Saturday night. Fights between the best of the best often go the distance, and that is the likeliest outcome here.
With that in mind, Crawford to win by decision or technical decision (+175 at Bovada) is the best bet on the board if you are leaning his way, and that’s the direction I am going here.
