Today, Chris Billam-Smith defends his Commonwealth and European cruiserweight titles in Bournemouth, England, in the main attraction for followers of British boxing.
The current keeper of the belts makes a rare appearance in his home town where he will be roared on by a passionate support in the best this Boxxer promoted card has to offer.
Summer is traditionally a quiet time of year for boxing, which is particularly true of the United Kingdom scene, with most fighters, managers and officials enjoying a brief but well-earned break. But that’s not the case in 2022 as everyone connected to the fight game pushes ahead, making up for the time lost during the pandemic.
Later this month, we will bring you a detailed preview of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with current heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk – that’s certainly one to keep an eye out for, so bookmark the site. But for now, we focus on Billam-Smith vs. Chamberlain.

Returning hero
Chris Billam-Smith returns to his home of Bournemouth in Dorset, England, where he will receive a hero’s welcome following a fantastic run of form.
The Gentleman has amassed a record of 15 wins against just one loss, with 11 victories coming inside the distance and the only loss suffered on points. Richard Riakporhe inflicted the spare at the O2 Arena, London, over ten rounds back in the summer of 2019.
There is no disgrace in losing to such a talented opponent who went on to bigger and better things, but we’re impressed by how Chris bounced back, returning to winning ways and then putting together a six-fight winning streak.
That run helped him bag a clutch of respected titles, including the two he places on the line this weekend as he bids for another eye-catching win.

Londoner fancies his chances
All the talk pre-fight has been about the homecoming of Billam-Smith and how he is expected to successfully defend his two titles while closing the distance on the division’s top names.
But that is unfair to the challenger who arrives from London confident he has what it takes to silence the crowd and enhance his chances of reaching the top.
Isaac is a talented fighter with knockout power of his own and enough boxing ability to keep members of Team Billam-Smith awake at night.
If anyone in the home corner makes the mistake of overlooking Chamberlain, thinking about the big pay-days to come, they are in for a rude awakening.

Chamberlain looking to extend run of knockouts
Anyone in the home crowd who expects their man to run over the top of Chamberlain should think again. The 28-year-old Englishman brings a professional CV showing 14 wins against one defeat with eight KO victories and that one loss coming on points.
Lawrence Okolie inflicted the spare over ten rounds in 2018, but The Sauce is one of the most talented fighters in the UK of any division, and defeat shouldn’t be a black mark against Isaac’s name.
He certainly didn’t think so, returning to win each of his last five with four KO wins on the bounce.
This is a step up in class of opponent for Chamberlain, and he won’t get his big shots off as easily against Billam-Smith, but he is better than his odds suggest.
Billam-Smith the bet in Bournemouth
We last saw Billam-Smith in action when stopping Tommy McCarthy in round eight of a contest scheduled for 12 in Manchester back in spring.
That was another impressive performance, eventually winning what was a scrappy affair – both fighters cut above the eye – delivering a hard right hand to his opponent's head.
Despite the ferociousness of the shot that helped him bag another win, that was Billam-Smith’s first victory by knockout or stoppage since beating Nathan Thorley inside two rounds at the Matchroom HQ Garden, Brentwood, in August 2020.
Three of his next four were all won on the scorecards, showing Chris is a fighter happy to stand and trade or utilise his boxing skills.
Will this be another night where the champion impresses the judges sitting at ringside, or will he do more to catch the eye of his supporters looking for another showreel KO?
This is no easy fight for the champ, and we’re happy to back him to get the job done on points.
